Hdtv As Monitor

What do I need to connect our Sansui HDTV to my pc - have a ****ty 8400gs with a tv out cable that enables you to use SvideoOUT/Y/P/Pb-AV.

My parentals going away for the weekend and leaving me without DSTV as they taking the smartcard so I want to drag the pc inside and use the TV as my monitor *grin* - any tips on what cabling I need to source?

Depends on the TV....

Either use a VGA cable, or one of the above cables.

Highest quality would be the VGA.
 
K so I just checked the GPU manual + TV - GPU has a tv out unit type thing that bridges out as into Y/PR/Pb/AV Output - so from there I plug HDTV into PR output according to manual - what cable do I use to do this a normal composite??? (rca) connector? Far as I can see tv doesnt have DVI output but it does have SVIDEO.

Oooo nm I think I can just take vga cable from LCD and plug it direct to tv off gpu and then cable for audio to tv from soundcard- there seems to be a section on my tv just for this to make it easy.

No... you need a component cable (Green/Blue/Red) <-- its higher quality. Composite is the lowest quality of the lot.

Don't you have a VGA cable from a LCD? Just use that, plug it into the PC, and plug it into the TV. If its a HDTV it will most definatly have VGA or DVI.
 
Thanks man I just thought of that too as you can see I edited my post before I checked yours - thought the vga cable on my lcd was soldered on or some such like a crt :P heheh stupid me - anyhow seems straight forward vga to pc to tv , then audio from pc to tv - ez pz im just trying to overcomplicate **** again.

You'd have to look at the back of the TV and see what connectors it has and hope for a VGA / RGB(sometimes called that) connector
if you use svideo out, you're limited to PAL/NTSC resolutions...
like 720 by 576 for PAL
and 648 by 486 for NTSC

but with the VGA cable - you can use the full HDTC resolution of
720p: 1280 X 720
1080p: 1920 X 1080

the higher the resolution, the better the picture....
 
Thanks I got it now its just me trying to over complicate **** again , last time i did this was a huge ass crt with way too many cables needed :P and i thought my lcd vga didnt detach hence my over complication but its ez pz i just tried to make it difficult.

How can I check the specs of the TV - is there a menu on the tv that will tell me max resolution or whatever or meh maybe I should just go look at it and google model number.

edit: all I can see is Sansui HD-READY Trident-PX - thats not showing up on google.... hmmm - any info on this tv anyone?
