Thread: Neotel consumer tariffs revealed

I think a lot of people here had some very unrealistic hopes. Neotel has to buy SAT-3 bandwidth from the consortium, so they really can't dictate the price.

I think this is a very good offer for what you get and I want people to consider a few points:

    1. It's NOT Telkom!
    2. Neotel invested in Seacom, which looks like the only submarine cable to land here in the near future.
    3. NO extortionate line rental or "ADSL line rental" fees!
    4. This is the Prime offer, there is still a Basic package to be announced.
    5. They have invested a lot of money and lain a lot of fibre and need to recoup those costs.
    6. We have been waiting for this since 2003 and now we FINALLY have a choice!

I too will be breaking out the champers!

I currently have to use HSDPA that costs me R400 a month for 2GB because my ADSL line went dead for weeks at a time.

When their Basic package comes out I know I'll get a much better deal for R400 than just 2GB.

Having said that, I still have 3 questions.

Is the service shaped or unshaped?

Will this be available month by month?

    What about p2p?

NeoTel's mothership (VSNL) is the consortium (or more accurately a large chunk of it)

I love the NeoTel hold messages

    Some randomg extra information:

They also say that they will start using
EVDO Rev. B in the near future. Damned operator answered halfway through the sentence "NeoTel will introduce its True Broadband offering in"

I also asked about two of the other packages they'll be offering in the near future - NeoSpeak and NeoConnect Lite. All they could tell me at this point is that NeoSpeak is just voice and SMS and NeoConnect is just internet access.

The consultant I spoke to also said it sucked that you couldn't make a call and connect to the internet at the same time but that this was something that would only be temporary.

Erm... did anyone notice the R100 increase in the NeoConnect Package? Just a few days ago it was R499.00, not it's suddenly R599.00, wtf?

O and for the people living in residential areas, the chances of you having signal for the NeoConnect product is very slim. Neotel said that mostly CBD areas will have coverage for the time being... So I guess my area in centurion should be covered in another....erm...YEAR OR SO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll put on my party hat if 1 of these 2 things can be added to your list:
    7. Unshaped
    8. Unused bandwidth will Rollover

Show me the dotted line i'll sign... on the condition that its month to month

I mean really, in this day and age to still have to only be able to either surf the net OR take a call...no sorry that is going backwards, not forward.
I agree. I'm glad a new operator finally arrived on the scene but with no ethernet and no phone calls while surfing, I have no interest in this product either.

Huh? He isn't asking what P2P is, but whether it will be allowed/shaped on Neotel's network.

Can someone clear up the SAT3 issue? As I understand it Neotel may have their own connection to SAT3 but it doesn't mean that they can determine pricing, even is VSNL make up a part of the consortium. They can't be getting very different pricing to SAIX, and they are definitely giving a much better deal on bandwidth than SAIX.

Now I can't wait for a WiMax or fibre offer with similar caps and no phone line included, should be great.

Only two things will keep me from jumping on the Neotel wagon.

    1. Latency
    2. 24 Month contract? I think not.......

Mittal would not give the exact number of consumers that pre-booked its consumer offering, but says they add up to thousands.
Thousands? I'm finding that very hard to believe.

    Hi folks

I have asked Neotel for feedback on some of the questions you have asked. Will publish as soon as I get comment from them...

    Regards,
