Simple PSTN to SIP Gateway?

Hi

I'm looking for a simple configure and forget Gateway that I can plug into a standard Telkom wall socket that will automatically forward any calls to a set VoIP (SIP) number?

What gateway's would you recommend?

Is there any software gateway available that uses a standard modem to answer the call and forward to SIP number?

The cheapest is the LinkSys SPA3102 but it is a SIP client only and has issues detecting call hang-ups on South African lines.

Another option (probably better although I haven't used it myself) is the Grandstream HT-503 (or older equivalent HT-488) which, unlike the LinkSys, can act as a mini SIP server. [http://www.grandstream.com/ht503.html]

Both are under R1000 and available from most VoIP suppliers.

Has anyone worked with it? I bought an HT503 and I'm battling to get it to work.

I have a network on the 192.168.20.x subnet. I use the Netgear DG834 ADSL router that is always connected to the Internet.

I've attached the device, changed the IP address using a telephone and then I can not access it. When I reset it to factory settings, I can access the menu using a stand-alone PC connected directly to it.

How do I configure the HT503 to accept any PSTN call and automatically forward the call to [email protected] (Tel UK: 08709744xxx)

Hi

I finally got the HT503 to work. You need to upgrade the firmware to 1.0.0.15 or better. Now all my PSTN calls are automatically forwarded to my SIP account. If I'm online I get my call on my laptop!
