How would one know if one is phoning Neotel-Neotel or Neotel-Telkom ( or even Telkom-Telkom or Telkom-Neotel)?
South Africa needs World Class Broadband at World Competitive Prices.

Just like everywhere else in the world where there is fixed line competition, I guess there's no obvious way to know up front. However, perhaps like the mobile operators, you'll be able to tell by what ringing sounds like (Telkom and Vodacom sound the same, but Vodacom and MTN sound very different, and so do Telkom and Neotel - call their head office number). Before MNP, you could always tell the mobile network from the number, now you have to listen to the ringing to know which network you're calling, and what you'll be charged.

I think that NeoTel might have a different prefix.

Not neccesarily, cause you are supposedly able to keep your number when switching from Telkom to Neotel
