Just to put things into perspective for everyone interested.
Monthy charges for ADSL through Telkom will set you back
R899.00 per month!

Excuse me but what would I get from this? I could pay off a
brand new ( small ) car for that!

From doing some research into this, particularly in the UK since
they use the same technology.
I found this ISP Free2Surf
http://www.f2s.com/adsl/home.php

Now I am not plugging this ISP, it's just a very good example of what
Telkom is doing to IT in this country.

Have a very close look at that page
ÂŁ22.50 per month ( a simple calculation at 10:1 means R225.00 per month. )

Add to that, the Static IP and the webhosting with Database and PHP.

Now tell me someone, that we're not being seriously ripped off in this country?

OH... I forgot to mention there is no CAP on that ISP and no Port Blocking

Ahh... Sorry Cosmic, I know you've got your brand spanking new
ADSL. But if we don't shout and scream and bitch and complain
then things will stay the same.[:)]

Shouting, screaming, bitching, and complaining at Telkom will do no good; Telkom doesn't lose any money by performing any of those actions. All of the aforementioned should be directed at the various organizations responsible for Telkom's monopoly situation; as soon as that situation is rectified, then it opens the way for competitors to level the playing field, and for economics to create a situation more favorable to us customers.

My opinion, it's about 3-5 years until we (in SA) get the kind of speeds, prices, package selection and service which many overseas countries already have. Are any of <b>you</b> prepared to wait?
I am not. I am making plans already!

Care to share them with us?

Sounds like he's leaving the country.
