Neotel WiMax, fibre on track

The government needs to pass urgent legislation which make it compulsory for any developer to provide below surface ducting to, and within the development, so that any telecoms operator only need to pull in some cables.

ok so when can i get connected neotell?

Yeah I really think they need a website update! :|

I can't even find a coverage map, this is something you want instant quick access to, maybe even an RSS feed, so that I can be intantly updates when a new area is covered....

Fibre To Home FTW!!

Neotel has said that South Africa remains a price-sensitive market which makes high-end residential services difficult to sell.

Price sensitive? Difficult to sell?

I think that thick pole we been shoved with over years has made us anything but price sensitive...

Think about it..my avg spend on the so called "broadband" is around a R1000 a month... and that is shaped caped limited access. That my friends translates to 127 USD at current exchange rate....

Shop around and see what can you get internationally for that money... than come talk about "price sensitivity, of high-end consumer offering and difficulty to sell"

SA consumer is accustomed to paying high price already .. time is now that Providers come to the party and offer services deserving my hard earned cash!!!!!!

Neotel: "Tns you are on our 90 day plan. But keep looking at our web site for details."

i sent them a email with my address and they replied they have no coverage in my area yet.

I agree with DblD most overseas operators would give their right ball to have customers willing to pay USD127 for internet only subscriptions. FTTHin the states is in the region of USD50 and then you would get some cable channels thrown in too! I agree our market is much smaller but there are profitable pockets in the city for eample areas like sandton and high density "new" suburbs like fourways, sunninghill, lonehill etc. Neotel would very easily be able to recoup their costs if they offer triple play services to these communities

Agreed, this is just another set-up to overcharge the consumer for a service which is "run of the mill" in the rest of the world. telkom has been allowed to set the president, the rest just follow. Competition my a$$.

The company is already serving corporate clients with fibre-to-the-premise (FTTX) offerings, and is looking at providing fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) services to residential consumers in the next few years.
Few is how much actually? Certainly more than 2 years.
Interesting, how much it will cost for user to pay for equipment?
