MyWireless Acceptable Download (Sentech)

Mailed the support staff at Sentech, asking them what the acceptable download average would be with MyWireless..

Okay, do me the favour of asking them this then, if I have the 512kb package (you lameass 128k users will fall beneath my feet in awe! [:D])

Would 2 gig still be too much? or can I push it to 16? [8D] Just seems more reasonable, 2 gig on a 128k, 4 gig on a 256k and 16 gig on a 512k.

Or is there a 3 meg package I can get? [:p]
 
On the 128k package you simply cannot download more than 2GBytes a day. Do the math, at approx. 35GB per month on a 128k line (fully used) it means you can do just over 1 GByte a day. So the person in the call center is obviously not thinking.

Maybe what they trying to say is that the 128k people aint limitted at all then ;)

Maybe they just decided that people on 512k lines might be trouble ? hehe
anyways, 1 gig a day will be a problem for me on a 128k anyways ;)
What do I download ?
 
If the above holds true - one can asume that sentech will not kill one for doing 1Gig per day - which on average is 30 Gig per month (and which is tough going on a 128k Connection).

Now this would equate to 10x the current Telkom adsl cap at half the costs, considering that the modem is included in the monthly fee of R649.

Now, how does Telkom then defend its high monthly costs for adsl? The copper cable to my home has long been paid for - have my phone now for 22 years and so do my neighbours.

Now the only reason can be that Telkom's SEP (SBC and Telecom Malaysia - see what adsl costs in their home countries)is here to rip off people in this country for as high profits as they can make while they are here, and secondly to further enrich the already fatcat bosses of Telkom by paying then huge bonusses for coming up with ideas to rip off the public

March on Sentech - I can't wait for your launch in Cape Town.
 
I gather his sentiment is that for <u>all</u> MyWireless packages the limit is round there, then you'll have to get something superior like VSTAR or a tailored package to suit your download requirements.. which will cost you of course but that is only fair.

30 gigs a month seems very reasonable (to me anyways).. when i get my 256K in a couple months I don't think I will be downloading more than a gig a day even though all i download are dj sets from globalbeatz.com, and listen to streaming stations from london (which seems to chow away at bandwidth pretty quickly as well mind you) [:)] Let's be fair and not take advantage.. we see how things go, and grow our current file sharing network so we don't always have to use international bandwidth.. they gonna get bedonderd if we get greedy hehehehe!

At this point it would seem Sentech are being very fair with regard to usage. I think most people would run out of things to download within a few months, even on the 128k package. Most people don't stream media 24/7 so that leaves the not so legal material... and don't tell me you download 35 gigs a month from iTunes [;)]

Given the alternative nobody can complain about a virtual 60GB/pm cap.

Pretty much as many as you want, you just need to buy IDE controller cards and depending on how many you buy you can just keep adding HDD's untill u run out of space in ur case :P I am running 4 HDD's ; a CD Wrtier and a DVD Writer.
 
Nah it's not really hot just noisy, got something close to 200CFM flowing tru the case, so it's just REALLY noise when all the fans are put to full :P Plus Passive HS's on the HDD's and HDD cooling fans. ( I am kinda into case moddin ;P)
