Neotel FAQ - Networks / Rollout

When can we expect to see neotel in Port Elizabeth. I expected a company that would be better when it comes to consumer questions. Start talking to your prospective clients and they might just come over to you. Surly they must have some kind of timeframe for all the areas.

tell me Mr Neotel man, why is it that when i phoned the Neotel toll free no last week from Tue-fri that none of the the customer service agents know anything about the Seacom cable and kept on telling me that Mt Moroni & Mr Hannes van Tonder are "busy", "in a meeting" or "off sick"?
i wanted to know what new offers Neotel will be coming out with, now that Seacom is going live.
you people deserve to be shot dead.

Now, you are going overboard.

It was a more long term view, meaning that they rather invest in setting up base stations now, than forever placing FIOS to connect a few.

LTE & the next wireless standards in the next few years, will all be over 100mbps, HSPA+ coming next year having a max of 88Mbps (12 simultaneous HD streams). The next standard of CDMA, after Rev B (also next year - 9 Mbps) will allow speeds of up to 326Mbps(50 HD channels per home). that already, and even with SEACOM would run up in a few seconds with the Caps we have.

Wireless for Home, and Mobile is the way to go.

FIOS should be for CBD businesses and roads where the cables are already lead up to base stations only.

I think SA needs fibre to curb - you have exchange boxs at the end of streets with a mini DSLAM in it. You sync directly with that which reduces the attenuation of the line which allows for lower latencies and higher sync speeds.

And its cheaper to roll out than FIOS.

I find it rich that Neotel is running a week long promotion outside the local Steve's Spar when my area (Montgomery Park -misspelled in their location system as Montgommery Park) is not covered.

My next door neighbour recently launched and is chairman of Sasatel in Tanzania also using CDMA2000 like Neotel (he's back there now). What I find interesting is that they've got a couple of dual SIM cellphones, obviously enabling you to switch between networks when you're in and out of coverage. Certainly interesting and I wonder when Neotel is going to do the same. The link is www.sasatel.co.tz

And no, I currently don't think Neotel provides any benefits at R80/Gb when I currently pay R60.

R999 uncapped.. unshaped... nough said. any gamers dream not to get capped half way through the month.. aslong as it works and im truly uncapped ill pay that NP!

atleast you guys arent bound to iburst..

iburst 50% downtime and 50% ripoff 200 bux per gig.. not to mention the latency is horrible ... 100% packet loss to www.wow-europe.com

throttle speed ( that they brag about ) is 64kbps.. meaning i DL at 4-7kbps ,... WOW super deal guys i can do one gig the whole month!

LOL! oh and the port forwarding is horrible.. we are shaped to death.. torrents download at 0.5kbps. horible!

switching to neotel as soon as the contract ends

Would be nice if Mr Neotel rep could update this thread with info of new coverage areas/towers that have been switched on.

He would only refer you to the coverage page - the page that cannot find my street address, not even close...

It seems like the Neotel rep is very picky when it comes to replying...

Not good customer service :erm:

No residential fibre access

They not interested in setting up costly equipment to feed nagging customers, then they will need an IVR call centre to address all the unnecessary calls. They have few IT admins who complain and few public queries, hence the human voice. First converged network services, instead of the second network operator why did not register as first converged network company?

I heard on the news that there was "no comment" from the Neotel CEO when he was questioned about price and the date of availability of the new Seacom broadband.

So.... if the CEO doesn't have a clue how much to charge for a product he is, as yet, unsure when will be working, you are highly unlikely to find a service representative who can give you that information.

My guess?
.......they have just signed the deal, the cable has been spliced, but that is all it is at the moment, a spliced cable. I would wager that no physical work has been done on the line by Neotel yet.

6 months time, if we are very lucky! In time for the world cup? Maybe.

Thank you for your e-mail enquiry dated the 17th of October, 2009.

Please be advised that due to the nature of our network we are not able to advise of when there will be coverage in areas that currently do not have coverage. We are however in the process of expanding our coverage throughout South Africa thus if you can check coverage again in the next 3 – 6 months to check if we have made progress in your area.

Thank you for showing interest in Neotel and looking forward to doing business with you in the near future.
I live in a upmarket busines district close to major financial institutions and I cannot get coverage. :(

At the Seacom exhibition I spoke to some of the Neotel people (who btw. believe that the Neotel system rocks!!). You and I won't benefit from the Seacom line. The bandwidth will be chopped up and sold off to smaller ISPs.

Think of it this way.... Because the new police commissioner is getting a R5 000 000 house do you think you will be safer?

nfbs

I live in a good signal area with bad bandwidth.

I’ve been waiting for a long time now to end my Vodacom 3g package, I unfortunately had to do an upgrade and sign a new 24 month contract with Vodacom, Why you might ask, well it’s because Neotell is doing covering all over the place except where I stay. Imagine that, I have been keeping a eye on their coverage map and where I stay there is no coverage, If I move a block in any direction ill have coverage, How is this possible, Who can tell me what’s happening in the Kensington aria (postal code 2094)

converged network

Who is Neotel?

Neotel is South Africa’s first converged network communications network operator, offering services that bring together voice, data and Internet, delivered via optical fibre (currently to large enterprises) or wireless access, based on its own, independent national network.

Thanks for the info on Neotel in South Africa's converged network services with voice, data and internet. Such an advancement!!

Yesterday I phoned Neotel and enquire about their fixed line (ADSL residential) What a waste of time it was :( The lady did not even know how cheap CellC was. She kept on telling me how much faster and better Neotel is when compared to Telkom. In the end, when she realized they have no coverage in the required area, she ended the call by saying "wait a little longer and we see what I can do for you" WTF
