Thread: Data Contract and Voice Contract

Angry Data Contract and Voice Contract

Hi, I have two 24 month contracts on my name at Vodacom, one is a Talk 500 voice contract and one is a MyGIG 5. I pay R2000+ on my vodacom bills per month. I have a special need now, I want to use internet on my cellphone and then I want the megabytes to be deducted from my data account, when I phoned Vodacom they said it can't be done, they said I must take out a databundle on my voice contract??!?! I cannot believe that I must pay them more money for 500mb on my voice contract but month after month I give vodacom unused megabytes that don't roll over?

I heard about the datasim option, but it won't help me much now as I already have two simcards. It will help if I can "merge" my two contracts. I have a year left on my data data contract, I was wondering if I could add 5gigs of data to my voice contract, cancel the data contract, and get a datasim for my modem, that way I can use the two devices while all the megabytes are deducted from the 5 GIG ?

Is there ANYONE who can assist? I really think I deserve better service from Vodacom.

Why? Because you pay a bit more than any other contract holder?

AFAIK, it cant be done. And by the way, you dont have to load a 500Meg Bundle to your voice contract, you have the option to go lower, and pay less.

No, because he is a customer Nothing wrong with going the extra mile!

Maybe he use 500Meg on his phone

Surely if VC wants to help they can. Don't just say it can not be done. Maybe there is another solution, like consolidating the two contracts. Don't be so narrowminded. Try to think out of the box!

What about the double sim devices which switch between two sim cards on one phone? Then use the voice number for voice then the other number for data?

Which handset in South Africa currently has that functionality? I'll give you some time to think about it

If Frana5 wants a solution to this type of query, he will need to go sit down with a Sales Consultant in a Vodashop.

Like i said, AFAIK, it cant be done. If i understand correctly, he still wants 2 SIM's, one for his modem(data), and one for his phone(voice) but with the option to use his 5Gig bundle on his Voice Contract.

Why could Vodacom not load a 5GB bundle on the voice contract and cancel the data contract, then provide him with a datasim on the voice contract? Technically there's no reason why it couldn't be done, the problem is finding someone to authorise something that's not 'standard'.

Maybe he did, but probably also got one who could not think out of the box.

Look at Syndyre answer, that is somebody who is think out of the box!

If you want to get ahead in business the must be innovative and not just say "it can't be done"

That would solve the problem, and and we would have a win win situation

    Maybe V3G could help

I spoke to one of the guys, and what Syndyre said is possible(by theory).

The downside is that the Data Contract will have to canceled, meaning the penalties will have to paid. There is no way to merge the 2 contracts.

The problem with that is that a 5GB bolt on bundle can be cancelled at anytime, so there is no way for Vodacom to ensure that the contract runs for it's full term, which means that they may want penalties to be paid to cancel it.

Thinking out the box is good, but often in a large organisation the solution you come up with cannot be implemented because of the constraints of the systems in place. It's simply not cost effective to re-write a system to suit one customer, even if they spend more than average (but not that much compared to their corporate clients).

Do you say employees of big companies should not think out of the box and have narrow-minded employees like Iam3G? I know for a fact that V3G have gone out of his way to get a solution there others has said it can not be done. Now that is the kind of employee you would want, or do I miss something?

I do not think he is the only customer who has this problem.

I'd like to see what kind of Solution Vodacom can come up with for this.

Yes, you missed a whole lot. I actually said that thinking out of the box is good, but that having an idea doesn't mean that you can immediately implement it, you need the systems in place to do that. And the systems in place in Vodacom do not support the idea offered by Syndre 100%.

I agree, and I also think that the best way to change the way Vodacom's systems work to address this need is to engage with them to prove that the change will enhance their business model. I've worked with many 'flexible' people and know well enough that you can't go chasing everything that seems like a good idea at the time.

Furthermore, I don't see that attacking people whose approach is different to yours is going to solve any problems at all. Iam3G was not being inflexible or narrow minded - he was informing us what can be done currently working within the constraints of Vodacom's systems.
