Has any body got an idea how the Sentech calender works. I am just wondering, since in my book the first quater would mean 31 March.

Why the sarchasm?...well I got my modem late in January.. I am out of pocket to the value or R1300 and no connection. I am only +- 2.2km away from Horizon( tower 126 again???) view which is operational (should you check with the Sentech help desk they will probably tell you that this station does not exist or that you are connecting from the north, when you are actually connecting fron the southeast). I am only =- 1.2 km from the Floracliff tower(towewr 110), which is not operational ???. This I am told is part of the first quater 2004 roll out.

Ja well no fine....

Ps I have an antenna from Powerband... I have signal strengths up to 30% etc etc but no joy

Check your modem version, if it's earlier than 4.2.1.1, you need a flash for your modem

Done that...I seriouslly hoped that it could be something simple like that.

I am told by the Sentech people that my "return signal" is to weak...

Alp I knoq this is a strange request but try logging on without the antenna plugged in and see if that helps I was testing with a patch antenna and found that I couldn't log on with it but without it I could log on 1st time...

Since I get no intelligent response from Snentech I try to connect daily... both with the antenna (which I now have pointing to tower 110) and without the antenna in the vain hope that I will get connection to any other tower that may come online.

Now for the biggest joke of it all. When the guys from Powerband came to test from my home, they connected to a tower while standing in the street in front of my home. They apparently connected to Hyde park....this tower is more than 15km from my home... oh this station is not operational...

Yea well, return signal my ass, if the modem is the same as a cellphone, why does my cellphone work better hey?

I think it's there towers

Hey ALP,

I had a similar problem - I was getting an ok signal (around 20%), but could not connect. According to Sentech support, the tower I was connecting to (102, which I assume to be Fourways as I am in Bryanston) was 'not operational yet' and would only be available 1st quarter 2004, which is oddly enough May. I also got the line about my return signal being too weak.

My first attempt would always fail and all the yellow connection lights would go off, but the green connection light would come back on. Normally I would reset the modem, wait for the signal lights to come back, and then try again, and this would fail too. I discovered one day that if I tried to connect again immediately after the first failure (with all the yellow signal lights still off, but the green connection light on) it would connect no problem! [:D]

After running through TheRoDent's tweaks (in particular, the USB debug tweak), I now connect first time just about every time. Now, with the yellow signal lights on.

I think the support guys were wrong about the tower not being operational and about my return signal being too weak. Those are probably standard responses when they don't know what is wrong.

What? My ass

Because cellphone towers are alot more dense, they also have a low power output or else you'd boil your brain (or did u do that already? *run*). Sentech cell sites should be just as easy really once their base infrastructure is going my guess is they will increase the "node" density.

return signal my foot.... i connect 5%- 15%, NEVER more...

Hey there,

I am also in Horizon (I live on Mouton road). I used a friend's one to connect, and it worked okay. So we ordered mywireless, I seem to think we connect to 82 or 126.

When it arrives, maybe we could make an arrangement and I'd bring my modem and test it where you stay?

Hi peoples..

Thanks for all the responses this is great especially for a newbie like me.

Johnny-c.. thanks for the reply.. try moving 500M east to Louis str and you will find that the signal disappears. Now I can actually understand this since Horizon view lies below the hill and I live on the other side of the hill.

My biggest beef is with the bs we are sold by Sentech. There is not a straight answer among them.

Why have the towers have the same numbers ..... because no matter which tower you connect to Sentech will tell you that you cannot possibly be connected to that tower. e.g. It seems that I must connect to Floracliffe, tower 110, I am in line of sight and 1.2KM from this tower. My antenna is pointing to tower 110 (both by sight and the dialler) at a signal strength or 28%.

Well I cannot be connecting to Floracliffe because apparently Sentech do not yet have permission to build this tower. The map indicates 1st quarter 2004.

Do I sound desperate, annoyed etc.... well it is probably because I am so well controlled ;-)

ps how do you get these smiley faces in your notes..?

Oh
Tower numbers are not uniqe per tower, read ProASM's responce in
http://www.myadsl.co.za/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2173
and see his tower list on
