    Default Printing rules!

A few nights ago I decided that I wanted to see how some of my better photos look in print, so I fired off an order (In Aperture --> Order Prints) for a few 20x30cm prints. I just received them. I almost cried. It's so good!

That said, there's no way I'm splashing for the kind of equipment required to do prints of this quality at home.

For me it makes much more sense to print commercially.

Start going larger and you might begin to understand why more pixels really can matter

20x30 was the largest they offered. I'll look out for other services.

Its pretty much A4 (21x29.7) - spend a couple quid and go poster size

People seem to forget how important printing is - I've found it a lot easier getting work since I printed a portfolio instead of offering it digitally.

I have a few of my Scotland pics marked for poster size.

I like the printing service too. I can't even get a the corporate grade laser printer at work to print a simply bloody text page.

I hate printers. Having done desktop support in a previous era of my life, probably didn't contribute positively to my feelings for printers.

I have a HP Photosmart Pro B9180 paired up with my Canon 20D. The A3 prints are awesome. Unfortunately my picture taking skills let me down so I am yet to take a picture I want to print any larger. Camera is good, Printer is great, User is cr@p!
Why yes, my one eye is bigger than the other. Thanks for pointing that out.

Must be honest and say that I am guilty of not printing all that much.

However last night the inlaws came around and we looked at some shots of the family on the big screen.(92 inch). Wow. Every time I do it I am amazed and happy that I have a high resolution camera. Of course one sees flaws very quickly at that size. Slightly soft shots dont look good( to make anyway the rest of the family don't seem to notice as much). But when they they are sharp, the colours good etc they look hot!

Funny enough but printing often hides a multitude of sins - shots with a lot of noise often look much better on paper than they do right up in your face.

I had someone come in yesterday who wants prints of their 1200 pic digital album. A few weeks back their hdd crashed - fortunately I was able to recover most of their stuff but the scare was enough for them. They also said granny preferred flipping through an album as opposed to the slide show approach of viewing on the 42" LCD.

There is something special about holding an album and paging through it. It has taken a bit of persuasion on my part to convince the Mrs to accept the digital album. But now that its there we dont miss the albums all that much. Resistance to change I suspect.

I also like hanging photos of friends and family - we've got a long passageway that has become our own memory lane
