Ubuntu Intrepid ready to fly

I'm not too worried about not having OO3 in Intrepid. Downloaded the .deb file the other day so will just do a manual install.
Can't wait for 30 October though... people are going to download like crazy.... again.

?? What are you smoking?

I used the local mirror for Hardy, it was on about 30 minutes after the release and was adequately fast.

I'm talking about the release. The new Ubuntu better be good.

I normally just walk up to the UCT computer science centre and just use the "Freedom Toaster" rather useful actually

Can I update my hardy to ibex just by changing the mirror to the ibex one, then the update manager takes care of it? Or must I download the alternative cd?

i have updated a kubuntu install like that before

You can do it via the update manager. Both ways do the same thing effectively.

Just one little factor though: if you update your OS to Intrepid it will do a large download and then you have one up-to-date version. If you download the Alternate CD, you can update any number of PC's, or reinstall and share CD's with others. That's a preferable option IMHO

There is an advantage of having the install disk. I ordered my free disk from ShipIt but will upgrade via download.... I have a 1473MB update to do... going to do that over the network to a mirror this morning, update to the latest version and then update next week to the actual release.
