Blizzard Billing and Support FAQ said:
Are all players eligible to use the "Recruit A Friend" service?

Players with a World of Warcraft account from the following countries are able to use the "Recruit A Friend" service: Austria, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, UK, Norway, Sweden, Greece, Ireland, Belgium, Spain, Russia, Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania and Belgium. Players from outside of these countries; players with trial accounts, or with full accounts with five referrals from the "Recruit A Friend" service currently pending, are ineligible.

Why is it that South-Africans always suck the short end of the teet?! If I'm not mistaken I pay exactly the same amount per month as the account holders in those countries.
Am I being a child about this or should something be said?!

Nope, you're not. I wanted to use the Resurrect Scroll and couldn't due to my country

It's unfair!

apparently if you account has 1 of the above countries physical address it works, dunno how you'd pay for it though

does this recruit a friend still work?

And does the account that you are recruiting have to be a new account? Since i do have a account that has a address in holland. But my other account has a SA address.

I also heard something about not being able to use a SA credit card to subscribe anymore?

If anyone has used this recruit a friend pls help me.

Using my credit card for payments, so I'm sure they accept that...

I logged it with Blizzard and I got back a reply which was literally a carbon copy of the FAQ. Very irritating.

I understand that there may be legal implications in some countries but if that was the case they should say so.

It might be that they have to check (legally) if it is OK to run the promotion in each of the territories and this requires lawyers and money so they just picked the top countries and went with that.

just a guess.

Why? or rather how does this make a difference?:(

Same reason we never got any WOTLK CE's... We're not important enough(a couple of the smaller countries in the EU have the same problem afaik).

Ok, after my innitial post I did some digging on the Bliz forums. This is the closest related topic to my question.

http://forums.wow-europe.com/thread.html?topicId=5379848458&postId=73730382092&sid=1#8

It has something to do with a pyramid scheme where if I materially benefit from referring someone i.e my girlfriend it's against the law. However I don't know if this applies to South-Africa's laws.:(

Will do some digging...

i had a guidly resurrect me and he got his 30 days for free; seem to have worked because he was not in rsa. this was in november 2008

pyramid schemes in sa are illegal

Care to back that up with a legal argument/website/news letter...anything?

Sadly as I've been reading through the Blizz forums this is a problem discussed quite frequently with people from Croatia,Romania,Denmark and the likes all complaining. The official Blizz response to all complaints are "It's a grey area in the legislation of your country".

http://forums.wow-europe.com/thread.html?topicId=7536244019&postId=75748078791&sid=1#8

I would personally like to investigate this further, if it's grey I'd like to colour it in BLACK for them! If anyone knows where the legislation on this can be found please post it here.

Many Thanks
