Use chalk
Use chalk
Chalk and introducing farmers walk with 40kg dumbbells helped me push to 184kg, my back feels like it wants to rip off if I go higher.Any tips on grip strength for DLs? My grip is starting to weaken and I'm only on 115kg at the moment.

Well the obvious reply would be - don't make a mess with the chalk .... I use a tiny bit on my hands... and its very seldom that you'd notice I've used it when I leave the area. (and I gym at Virgin Active)
Chalk can be bought at any place that sells climbing equipment, I think I got my last lot at Cape Union Mart.

Chalk is gonna help. I pushed to 125kg before I started using chalk, and even then I find I might still have to use reverse-grip on my final weight, but working up there I still prefer double overhand-grip.
When you working your way up to your work weight, also try to hold the weight at the top for a few seconds, that is on the sets you do double overhand grip before you switch to reverse grip, also helps me build grip strength. I think I might incorporate the farmers walk with 40kg dumbbells as well, they much heavier than you expect.
Here in Cape Town I tried quite a few places before I ended up at M-Kem and just bought my chalk there.
I regularly get to a bar at VA Tygervalley where someone else used chalk, so I am not sure if they mind, just not sure why the chalk is on the bars where people bench press. That is the last place I have grip problems.

One of my favorite exercises that and flipping a tractor tyre although that makes a hell of a noise and needs an empty 4 car garage, my wife wants to fill my tractor tire with sand for my son to play in, that and she thinks i'm going to hurt myself!I think I might incorporate the farmers walk with 40kg dumbbells as well, they much heavier than you expect.
Some time ago I posed a video from Mehdi (stronglifts) doing squats here, and someone asked for a Deadlift video.
Seems he posted one recently.

Interesting, I never done that heavy that the bar rotate in my hands on bench, in fact it is the one exercise where I feel it is perfectly steady in my hands, it rests right on top of my wrists, so I don't feel any problems with it, and thats even on 92.5kg which is currently my PR for Bench. ( I know, most do a lot heavier than that, but thats pretty damn heavy for me )

I started struggling around 100KG.
On 160kg now. Using basic wrist straps.

Use chalk or colophony resin (cheaply available, bought mine at M-Kem). I've been using it for years in V/A, no problems. Just don't make a mess (stating the obvious here). Gloves ruin deadlifts, and deadlifts ruin gloves. Straps are for pussies
My max lift is 265kg at the moment, although I feel pretty confident that I will be able to pull 270 next week. Then you can start with 3-quarter deadlifts. Put a step in the rack, and put the bar on the rack. Get on the step, and lift from there. THat will build your grip. My grip is still holding at 340kg.
Try to not use straps for anything. I ONLY use chalk, not even a weight belt, strenghtens your core muscles and stabilisers. And no, I do not use any roids, supplements, or whatsoever. High blood pressure, you see![]()
