Hi all

See the unit don't work like a router, so I setup Internet sharing on my PC so my laptop can also connect to the Internet.

Q - Is there another way to do this?

Q - Can the internet dailer dail automaticly to connect to the internet when my PC is switched on?

All ideas and solutions are welcome :)

I've set it up as follows on my PC.

Setup the connection and such manually on my main PC with set IP's and then shared the connection.

I use my Telkom Wifi router as a 'hub' and then connect other PC's (laptops in the flat) to the router and my main PC is a gateway.

I had to turn DHCP off on my wifi router.

You'll need to run the Neotel CD to install the drivers, once that's done, setup the connection manually - there is a few threads about this.

;) Thank you for the info guys. DHCP is then okay, but how do you get your PC to automaticlly connect the Neotel connection when pc is switched on?

This will require you to use a manual dial-up connection and not the neoconnect manager. In vista... go start, connect to, then you will see the neotel dial-up connection. Right click and select properties, click options tab and tick the Redial when connection is dropped box.

Alternatively you can get to this settings page in xp by right clicking the neotel connection icon next to the desktop time (when you are connected) and selecting properties. (other ways, but this is simplest to explain in my opinion)

All options in that page should be self explanatory, I.E. time betweem redial attempts, etc.

Sorry my bad, misread your post. hmm, there is a way to do it, but i can't for the life of me remember. I assume you want it to automatically dial on boot? What operating system you using? Is there a user password on your desktop user account? Is there more than one account? I will look into it if you like?

No Username and Password with startup. OS XP SP2 upgrading tp SP3 tonight;)

I have looked around, but can't seem to find the specific on boot-up command and unfortunately i am using vista so i can't manually look for it. Do you really need it to establish a connection when the pc boots or can it just establish a connection when one is needed? If only when it is required then you can do the following.

1.) go to the properties for the connection (specifically the sharing tab).

2.) make sure the establish a connection whenever a computer needs one box is ticked. Also ensure the prompt for username and password box is unticked in the options tab.

3.) open intenet explorer and select tools, properties/internet options and go to the connections tab.

4.) select always dial my default connection and make sure the neotel connections is the default.

5.) select the neotel connection in the box and click settings

6.) make sure the username and password in the window that pops up is correct.

The above should make the dial-up connection start whenever it is needed.

Hope this is of some help.

Hey there... funny thing with my ICS is that it dials whenver ANYONE on the network tries accessing the internets except me (i am the host of the ICS).

I was thinking... to get it to boot on startup (if HTP's pc is the same kind of animal as mine and doesnt work) couldn't you create a shortcut to the Neotel connection (and obviosly save all your settings like username and password etc.) and then stick the shortcut in the Startup program group of the Start menu?

Might work... but dont shoot me if it doesnt, as i said, just a thought ;)

i am also trying to do this but can figure out how... i want to log onto the PC with Remote Desktop so i need a windows user and pasword. I'm running Dyndns as a windows service to keep my IP updated and have enabled redial on dropped connection, but if the PC restarts i need to login and connect manually.

any help would be appreciated

This might just work, just make sure you have the "prompt for username and password" checkbox unticked in the dialup properties. The other alternative is to create a schedule to start the connection everytime windows starts, but this would require a bit of scripting and unfortunately i am unfamiliar with this.

ok

/me to the rescue.

For those of you who want the above:

1. Go to start, accessories, system tools, schedule task.

2. create a new task and call it whatever you like

3. select run whether user is logged in or not and make sure you put in your loggin details for windows if required.

4. add a trigger and begin the task "at startup"

5. under actions you will select start a program.

6. open a notepad file, you will find it in start, accessories.

7. add the following to the notepad file without the brackets.

rasdial [connection name of your dial up connection, mine is NeoConnect] [user name] [password]

8. save this file as a .bat file of whatever name.

9. go back to the task scheduler and browse to the file you just created.

10. you can set all other settings, etc to your liking. I.E. when to stop the task if it runs too long, etc.

11. save the task and reboot your pc.

Let me know if it works.

I just tested the above and can confirm it works, however as i tested it on one of the client machines i am unsure as to what effect it has on ICS. Let me know if it works for you and if not then i will try and help where i can.

p.s. i tested this on a visa 32bit machine, but should have no effectas both vista and XP have the rasdial functionality

Well either this worked for those who were asking for it and they simply did not say anything, or they missed it entirely... so just a quick *bump*

thanks rtzouves, set everything up this morning and it works perfectly (on XP)

Thanx Dude tested and it works perfectly
