NATIONAL LOTTERY APPLICATIONS

It should be noted that the National Lottery Distribution Fund has advertised its intention to consider applications for the Sports and Recreation sector.

All clubs affiliated to Mind Sports South Africa are actively encouraged to submit applications in order to grow all aspects of Mind Sports. Please remember that in 2009 the Old Edwardian Society received R450,000.00.

Member clubs may request funding for:

Sports equipment and playing kit,
Basic facilities and upgrading of existing facilities,
Participation in local leagues and Provincial Championships.

All member clubs intending to submit applications must refer to Mind Sports South Africa in order to obtain the necessary letter of support.

Please note that the closing date for submissions is 17H00 on 19 June 2009.

Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) is an affiliate of the South African Confederation of Sport and Olympic Committee.

The MSSA is responsible for the good governance and promotion of Board games (such as Backgammon, Diplomacy, Checkers, Draughts, Morabaraba, etc), eSports (whether they are played on ‘cell phones, Sony® PSP’s, personal computers or similar), and Historical figure games (also known as wargames).

I think you guys have just hit rock bottom, trying to get money from the lottery. It's about giving money to people that desperately need funding and improving their skills and you can hardly call gaming a propper sport.

Please be aware that many people get their "head-start" in life through sport.

The National Lottery is obliged by law to grant funds to Charitable Organisations (for example, Hospice, Little Eden, SPCA, etc.) to the Arts and to Sport.

Oh, and by the way, gaming IS a proper sport.

Also can you think of a better way of promoting computer literacy among the vast majority of South Africans than through the valiant efforts of the National Lottery?

By being imaginative, and by buying into the current systems, we can make this a South Africa of which we can all be proud.

Ahh, but Spooner, eSports gaming is a proper sport, and, if you wish to see eSports grow in both stature and numbers you need to tap into National Lottery funding.

Basically what you are saying is that you do not want to see the growth of eSports clubs, nor do you want to see the growth of gaming among the financially disadvantaged members of our society....

Well, we are all entitled to our opinions aren't we?

I'll be beyond p1ssed off if the Lottery give these guys any money.. There are considerably more deserving sporting institutions if they DO want to spend money on sports.

So, who decides what sport is more deserving than another?

Is rugby more deserving than soccer? So donation to rugby instutions...

And cricket more deserving than chess? And definately gotta give the local cricket academy some money...
