Thread: Mouse problems in windows 7 RC1

  1. #1

Question Mouse problems in windows 7 RC1

Have a weird windows 7 problem. My mouse freezes randomly - only a few seconds - happens in gaming, surfing the net and in Office. Not exactly earth-shattering I know but still very annoying

    Any suggestions?

It's a bog standard USB mouse; my Logitech cordless refuses to work at all although the cordless keyboard works fine

EDIT: Yes I have tried other "mice" - same result with varying degrees of freeze

Tried downloading and installing the specific drivers for the mouse? I know Win7 has drivers for about everything so sometimes you dont bother cuz u think its working, but it may be malfunctioning. Also make sure the to match up 32bit/64bit driver packages with your win7 version when downloading/installing.

Tried that. No drivers for the Logitech mouse and windows tried to download drivers but cuoldn't find anything better than what was currently installed

I can think of a few things:

Anti-Virus - Locking system up when scanning
    Virus
    CPU - Not fast enough
Network Components - searching for network drives / shares and causing a freeze...

Have you checked any of these?

I had something similar happening to me occasionally (In Win XP). I noticed when my mouse froze like yours, my CPU ran at a constant 25%. I rebooted and all was fine. I'm am suspecting it to be anti-virus. I am however done with F_Secure. Their useless help/support did me a favour to ditch them in future.
A little experience usually upsets a lot of theory.
