Advice plz. We need to buy a workhorse 4x 4 bakkie for work. It has to be a 4x4 single cab and must be under R200k.

I can get either a Hardbody 2.4 petrol or a Ranger 2.5td that are within my budget. There's a 2 month wait on the Ranger, but I admit to being inclined towards the (older design) Nissan anyway, because it's a petrol and is likely to be more reliable in the long term.

Your thoughts?

I assume if it needs to be a 4x4, that it will be in the rural areas? If so, go for diesel. I had quite an adventure trying to find unleaded gas in a village in Mpumalanga. :o
 
you can get a decent Ranger for around R150k, and they are nice too...
 
Id go for the Nissan. I have one in fact but the turbo diesel 4x4 King cab. That bakkie gets punished day in and day out on dirt, mud and rough terrain, always loaded. Then on the tar I punish it some more cos Im always late.

160 000k and no probs to speak of.
 
Ok, just ordered requested an official quote from Nissan so I can place an order.
 
A good place to visit would be 4x4community.com
Its a local site and is very active. There you can see what are common problems with various vehicles. They all have their unique pitfalls.
