Thread: Gaming Testers

    Default Gaming Testers

    Hi Everyone,

Just got off the phone with lewstherin. he suggested a service to offer good international pings for gaming purposes.

I have been reading the foums, and have noticed the cry on pings for games such as WoW.

We (FreeDSL) currently have a VPN service that is available for testing, if anyone would like to apply, please let me know either via PM or email. You'll have access to this service for the weekend (which should give you a good testing base).

I would appreciate response on the service and any recomendations for the service. When posting your response, please include the time you tried accessing the service, as well as the date and which ISP you are using (for tracing purpose).

You'll need OpenVPN setup and running on your computer to access this service. You can download it from here:
    http://openvpn.se/files/install_pack...c5-install.exe

This includes a gui to control your VPN connection. Once that is up and running, drop me a mail or PM and I'll send you the config files.

    Thanks

I'm still waiting for my DSL to be installed

Heres my ideas on what kind of service would do well with WoW/international MMORG gamers...
come to think of it, the service would probably appeal to people that do online share trading etc as well

Ok, so let me understand this, you're going to let FireFli test this VPN (cost in future?) and see if the latency to WoW is better than what Telkom can offer?

Doesn't sound too bad, if you can give me Unshapped WoW access (bugger everything else) I'll be interested...now if I can just get my account sorted out with Blizzard...

    Hi Brannor,

The backbone we use is unshapped, however, the link from you (as a client) to us is over the ADSL cloud, which is shaped. I am hoping the shaping is only for int access. But the test results will show what is going on

Found I still have UT (yes the first one) on my PC. So I tested out the pings... I was getting about 300 - 400ms stable pings... could actually play nicely. Either the guys online sucked, or my ping was great, cause I was whipping ass... lol

Initial impressions are good. My high population server (Shadow Moon) is giving me latency of around 550-650 on average. Which is fine for playing. Will see how it goes as the night wears on.

Thanks D, hoping this works out.
