Hi guys,

Neotel rep PM'd today and has said that I can have the device for a week, there is a 'catch' that, whatever I'm going to publish (about the device) I have to let the marketing department see it first.

I did mention to him (in a reply PM) that (in a nice way) that it's not going to go down well with me - that, whatever I write about, they want to change, I plan to be honest about it.

Having said that, should I get a device, I'll have it for a week, please post what you guys want me to test so I can list it and do it accordingly for you guys.

Where needed, screenshots will be taken.

A speed comparison with the Prime device at several different locations using different antenna configurations would also be interesting. If you are unable to connect the NeoGo device to your antenna maybe you could try a coffee can waveguide (with the 800MHz spacing) to improve the reception. Apply Prestik or tape to temporarily hold the modem in the correct position ...

Geez dude... I can't exactly pick up my device and move it... my antenna that was installed for me is like mounted on the wall out of my general reach.

Be a man!
Do the right thing!

And rip it out of the wall :D

Looking forward to seeing those results.

According to Neotel the NeoGo comes with data monitoring software, please check how accurate it is and whether it reports usage in real time, or with a lag.
It would be a nice indication of what we can expect (someday) for their other subscribers.

Fat chance buddy! haha.

I'll give a blow by blow of when I received the device, what tests I did, etc etc etc, but keep the suggestions coming in, I'm keen to keep everyone happy by posting a proper 'feedback' report for you guys.

In my experience the signal been quite well in Gardens and Vredehoek. Try testing it in the CBD, maybe a drive down Bree street.

Then take it for a spin past Seapoint to see how the connection behaves when the signal starts to drop.

I plan to do this, as well as other areas too while I'm on the road during the 'week' in question.

Can't wait for these results. Hoping for good things...

For me, downtime is unacceptable, so if that can be minimised and some sort of decent speeds maintained, then I'd consider switching :)

I would also like to see the test results. I can't commit to Neotel until issues like data monitoring, reliable connection and accurate billing gets sorted.

Maybe this device can kill 2 of those issues?

That is one of the biggest issues I have with Neotel. I don't want a couple thousand rand bill because I cannot monitor my usage.

R299 a month for 1.5GB and out of bundle billed at R80/gig. Including the device. Could be tempting indeed.

Does this work like other mobile data cards? In that you can only have one PC hooked up to the internet at one time? :o

Can always have that pc running ICS. Msut say though, very attractive indeed. I would like to know latencies though as I do enjoy my online gaming... also last i checked neotel hasn't done anything new to cover my area sufficiently :(

Coverage in my are appeared then a week later it vanished!
They were promoting their Neotel prime devices at the spar nearby, and after checking the coverage map, spar had no coverage.
Yet there were the phones working at least 500m out of coverage!
What are they trying to prove?

The neogo product seems interesting... Any chance there will be a prepaid offering in the very near future? that R80 per GB is very atractive.
