question is simple. what are the best available psu's for this price range? i'm hoping for something around 850watts(tall order for the budget i know)
i heard that its important to stay away from not so well known companies so please can you guys give feedback on experience you've had. thanks

TX750W Iif you can deal with the cables)

A bit more and you can get a HX750W which is one of the best psu's available.

What's your system specs? 850W sounds overkill

I would get an HX620 or HX750 depending on your system ofcourse

Find anything from a good make with a shyte load of Amps on the 12V rails and all will be well ;). You major battle with PSU's nowadays are amount of amps you can send through the 12V rails. 40 Amps for single card, and about 50 Amps from sli/crossfire.

That's the 600W version, the one on special is the 700W for R 88more, and take2's shipping charges are only R30.

Yeah...you're right. In jump its listed as 500- 700W version...go figure.

Good price then from take2.

my system is as follows AFTER i upgrade(which is the reason for getting a new psu)

cpu: q9400
mobo: asus pq5 se
gpu: ati 5870, 5870 voltage tweak edition(this i think is gonna need alot of power) or 5870x2( for now just assume that i'll get the most power hungry of these 3 choices)
ram: 6gb 800mhz
hdd: 1x160gb, 1x80gb and 1x1tb
case: coolermaster HAF(its got alota fans)
OS: using xp now but soon win 7
i thought i should go quite big for the purpose that it'll last longer(which would work out cheaper in the long run)

but please add your 2 cents.
850watts overkill?
what would you suggest to make this run at maximum and still a little bit just incase i upgrade to more power hungry components.

and again please well known brands.

850w.....?

I bought the HX750 for my rig and have never been happier. I like the single 12v rail setup so you don't have to balance devices over different rails. I know new PSU's automatically re-route power to rails that need it but I fell single rail is just easier.

HX750 for the win.
