Hi folks

I have had feedback from a few people (one again today) suggesting that we should open an IT Job board. I have been thinking about this for some time now, but would first like to get your feedback before adding this section.

Do you think it is a good idea?
If so, do you think we should simply add a forum for this or have a separate system that is specifically tailored for this purpose?

Your feedback will, as usual, govern the decision made regarding this issue.

Regards,

RPM

It is a very good idea, this forum is full of capable people. I am pretty sure there a jobseekers here. I would they "thumbs up"

Just create another topic, that would do I think.

A separate system would be great, but don't you think it will get a little too complicated and add to your work load?

So I would think a new topic would be sufficient for now. If need be, you could create something different in the future, but lets see how it goes.

Also, I presume you and the mods will keep some sort of control on who gets to post the jobs. We don't want a bunch of non myadsl people spamming the board. But we'll leave those details in your capable hands.

So my vote is yes.

LOL @ Spam.

Methinks that you allow them to post job offerings - NO AGENTS.
Salary range offered must be shown (Mandatory)- then the rest of us can use these figures as research.
And - you only allow PM responses by users - no inline responses at all except by the job offeree.

Good idea !

Also - definately freelance stuff of any kind.

Sort of a "Freelance Help Wanted" section

Maybe someone needs a backend programmed, a powerpoint document created, a website designed, network cabling installed, legal advice - that type of stuff.

There's enough different professions here to make that a worthwhile enterprise.

Good point - I guess a lot of us are in IT, but there's also laywers here and I'm sure other professions.

In the case of my freelance idea, someone may post "Website design needed" and I could respond.
Or maybe I need help installing a wireless network, so I post that and someone else will respond.

The bottom line being it's a job section, so obviously and services offered or asked for would require payments.

Agreed. I'm all for it but please no recruitment agencies!

I will vote as long as i can get a great job with many perks and secretaries (preferably female, but male will do if they are buff).

Sign me up!

Hi RPM - I would caution you against pursuing this idea, for the simple reason that the forum would be subject to abuse by prospective employers, employees and agents alike, as pointed out by prior posters. Due to this, the amount of moderating required could prove to grow exponentially over time.

Whilst the simple service ethic proposed by BB_MATT via his 'freelance help wanted' proposal is a noble one, I remain of the opinion that the MyADSL forum should be untainted by aspects of commercial endeavour, whether this be reward for providing your skills or labour, or otherwise. There are also any number of job sites out there that can be trawled by prospective empoyers and employees alike, as well as ICT-related forums concerning specific pieces of work that may be on offer.

Personally I think that either adding an additional forum or deploying a separate system detracts completely from the underlying raison d'etre of the MyADSL site. Such an endeavour should be a completely separate web presence with its own set of values, principles and objectives. Sure, nothing wrong with a complementary link on both sites, but I would make sure that a clear distinction be made between the two (MyCapitalistWhore???!!)...

Good in principle; but...

RPM,

My opinion is that such an idea is good in principle; but it should never detract from the original intent of this site.

I would rather prefer that this be hosted separate from this site in order to minimise the inadvertent cross-pollination of job related threads with the real broadband and telecommunications issues covered currently.
Affiliation between these two sites could be maintained, through cross advertising, etc.
Maybe even by reserving a small piece of web real estate for recently posted job adverts e.g. similar to “Latest forum topics”.

Hope that helps…

cross-pollination of job related threads with the real broadband and telecommunications issues

Yes soon they may mutate into dangerous hybrid jobs/broadband threads sucking innocent users in ;)
