Does anyone have suggestions for a digital photo frame? There seems to be a great deal to choose from, but the reviews are either scant or scathing. :(

I have been looking at a few options, I quite liked the Sony's but they all have really odd aspect ratios (I want 4:3). Viewing angle seems to be a big problem for many models. I don't really care about the mp3/video playback. I want something with a good picture, decent viewing angle and variable timing settings.

I'm also interested to hear feedback. Had a Braun 8", but lasted 6 months. 4:3 is definitely the way to go imo - means no need for cropping. And 8" or bigger.

Saw a LG at Incredible Corruption for a decent price in the newspaper this weekend. Will have a look later.

The LG's I looked at did not have the aspect ratio I was looking for. At the moment the best one I could find so far at a price seems to be the Transcend PF810, but I don't like the frame options. The Sony DPF-D80 actually has 4:3, but the only people who stock it are wantitall and their prices are insane.

I bought a 15" when I was in Germany. Was the same price as an 10" here, and had more features. We are being overcharged for these things.

Anyone come across a reasonable one that is 2 x 3 or 5 x 7?

DYI is an option...

R999 at Game (great price, online they sell for between R1,200 and R1,500). 8.4 inch screen and a 4:3 aspect ratio, which I was looking for.

After some digging I settled on the Coby DP852. I also had my eye on the HP DF820 and the Samsung SPF-85V but would you believe no-one stocks them in SA.

Nivo stocks the Coby and I have just placed my order. I must say their site is quite nice and the check-out process was very smooth clearly laid out. With shipping it cost me R1143 which was about my budget. Will post back some details once I receive my item :)

My Coby was delivered today and initial impressions are very positive. The "wooden" frame is not quite wood, but it's a very stylish finish and the overall feel of the frame is very munch in the classic photo frame realms. Overall I like the look.

The viewing angle is pretty good from the sides, but not so much top and bottom. So you to have this at eye level. There is a bit of reflection from the glass, but that will depend on your lighting conditions. Because the aspect ratio is 4:3, which matches my photos, there is no cropping or black borders. Fantastic!

The remote works well and the menu interface is pretty simple. The slide show settings offer a lot of options from 1,5,15min, 1hr, 1day. You can also set it to start up and shut down at certain times which is nice (say office hours). It also has a calendar and alarm.

Also have to say thanks to Nivo for a very smooth transaction. I received emails and sms'es keeping me posted on my order status. I ordered Thursday 11:30 and had my item this morning at 9am. :)

Morkhans - what is the sound like on the Coby DP852? I'm looking for an electronic photo frame that is also a clock & alarm, and preferably even a radio.

I was at Orms the other day and they had a Coby one as well.

Can't say that I paid much attention to the sound, but it's about as good as can be expected from the limited speakers you will find in any of these products. So if all you want it to do is make enough noise to wake you up in the morning, I am sure it will do the trick :)
