I have a Bold 9000 and I use Ringo to manage my sms tones.

It is vital that I have about 5 certain contacts with individual sms tones.

Ringo works well as it did when i was on WinMo but the tones are very soft

Could it be Ringo??

Is there another app that can do the same or similiar to Ringo

Does anyone have a comment or solution to my problem

You should be able to select custom ringtones from the contacts application, no need for a separate programme (although this may only be available in OS 5, I just upgraded to a beta and this function is available, can't remember if it was in os 4 or not).
I've never had a volume problem with my Bold. If it's still too soft you can increase the volume level of the ringtone on your PC with Audacity (google it, it's free).

He's looking to assign custom tones for incoming SMSes to specific contacts not ringtones.

Well in OS 5 custom ringtones are available for calls and messages (don't know if that includes sms or not).

It is. I'm using 411 and it's generally great, only some issues with camera (can't delete, edit pictures after taking them with camera app). Otherwise fully functional.
