Thread: Mtn - Do Your Job.

  1. #1

Default Mtn - Do Your Job.

I am unable to send email today as the IP address you allocate to me is listed on spamhaus.org. It's not my job or responsibility to have your IP address removed or to keep them off the list.

I pay you for a service and I expect it. I am unable to send email so you are thus taking my money and not providing the service. What now? Another 7 days to de-list the IP? (196.11.241.43.)

I can't wait for your normal 7 days, so I de-listed it. It will still take hours before I can send email - get your act together!

(Vodacom had the same problem, but they took the appropriate steps to minimise the problem.)

It is generally unwise to try and run your own smtp server on a dialup IP range, many corporate networks block email from dialup IP ranges as they are a huge source of trojans and spam. Just set a smart MX on your smtp server pointing to MTNs mail server, or get some hosting somewhere and use that for your mail server.

Did I say I was running a smtp server? I'm not.

Assumption is the mother of all fu**ups.

    Dude Chill.

Are you maybe connecting to a mail server outside MTN's network?
I know that many ISP's will block IP's to there mail server that are not on their network.

I can suggest putting in the MTN smtp as your outgoing. Might solve the problem.

You could use Sentech's SMTP server as they havent implemented authentication.
    Telkom go google go!

Using mtn smtp server is not practical when you have to use multiple connections every day and you will still loose mail with this option as the emails will be labeled as spam at most ISP's.

MTN is the problem and should solve it as Vodacom did if they want to play ISP - ISP.

All rather intriguing. Generally other ISPs (except Sentech it seems) will prevent you from sending email via their mail server unless you
    a) are logged in one one of their IPs or
    b) authenticate yourself in some way

If you authenticate yourself then that should bypass their spam checks, even if the IP you are connecting from is blacklisted.

However I am likely making more assumptions here as we do not have all the facts.

It is all an unfortunate situation, but admins have to be ruthless or email would be useless with the amount of spam and worms going around. Currently about 70% of email gets blocked at the average well configured mail server.

Hi. I was certainly here and replying on Friday and sorted out the VPN issue but do not log in on Saturdays. I have passed on the mail server query.

just a note to say that MTN BB and pals do an excellent job here and are online all the time. so cut them some slack. I am sure they have better things to do that to listen to every single query from everyone with problems. We thankful they are here and look forward to further interaction from them.

ash - they are slow to answer posts if they even bother to answer them at all. Most problems are simply ignored. Vodacom3G provides a much better service!

PS. We are paying clients - it's their job to attend to problems.

Thanks for the support ASH. I did not lose enough posts for that to be a good excuse!

I do generally refer the query to the appropriate person and await their response before replying.
