UNCAPPED ADSL FOR 2 TELEPHONE LINES - CAN ANYONE GIVE ME ADVICE PLEASE?

Hi Everyone

I'm new to this forum and pretty ignorant regarding the various ADSL Uncapped options. I'm currently with Cybersmart on the 5 gig a month contract but am now looking to move to uncapped (obviously!). I have 2 questions:

1. Who offers the best uncapped solution in terms of speed, reliability etc? If Mweb is one then is there by any chance another company that I should be looking at.

2. I have got a business line and would very much like to have an uncapped offer that covers both telephone lines? Is this possible and if so from whom? If not then what would you recommend is the best solution for me.

ps I work off a 384 speed line and am not into gaming.
 
Simple advice: Don't type in all caps on the internet, it's considered screaming and rude. Thank *insert who you pray to* that posts in all caps get formatted correctly automatically.

Oops thanks for this - I did mention 'blonde! lol
 
only because with Afrihost for e.g. you can run 'capped' off 2 lines ... and so I wondered if there was another service provider offering the same but with uncapped.
 
Unfortunately most ISP's only allow 1 concurrent connection with their uncapped packages, except for DigiChilli, who's throughput can be quite terrible AFAIK.

Axxess, Mweb, OpenWeb, @tlantic & Afrihost have the uncapped ADSL for roughly the same amount: R200pm for 384kbps uncapped (excl line rental).
 
You have 3 Options:

1) You will need an uncapped account for each line
2) Have one of them uncapped and a capped account on the other
3) disconnect the router at home when you go to the office and disconnect the router at the office when you go home (or put both routers into bridge mode and create PPPoE dial-up connections as needed - but you can't use them simultaneously).
 
Thank you Gary. How complicated is it to put both routers into bridge mode? I wouldn't have a clue how to do this ... would I be able to organise for someone to do this for me or is it simple enough for a blonde to do?

We can explain to you here how to do it, but it will help us if you can post the model numbers and make of the routers.
 
Thanks so much Gary. As soon as I have got my uncapped (which will be in May because I had to give a months notice to Cybersmart) I shall revisit this fantastic site! Thanks to everyone for assisting it is much appreciated and I will recommend you to all my friends who need advice/assistance.

What do you use the internet for on a daily basis?

1. Please keep in mind that not all products out there are equal. Many of of these uncapped packages are heavily shaped during daytime hours and things can get slow. Investigate shaped vs unshaped services.

2. Not sure I understand what you mean here? Do you have two phone lines at work and want adsl on both of them?
 
Hi Gary, I'm back - surprise surprise Telkom got us our ADSL line faster than I could have imagined! Ok so now here is where I'm at. I have uncapped ADSL at my office with Afrihost. I have cancelled Cybersmart at home and thus have no ADSL at home but I do have a router and a telephone line. Just wanted to double check if this is all I need for the bridging? @ Ponder...just noticed your message now. Internet is used mainly for surfing the net in general - not downloading of massive files or gaming.
re point 2. I have a telephone line at the office linked to Afrihost with uncapped. I have a different telephone line at home with no ADSL. I am wanting to see if I can link the home computers to the uncapped office ADSL. I'm not sure if I explained this properly to Gary but if I did then it seems he has the answer.

sounds like you're pretty much set, just remember uncapped accounts usually only allow one concurrent connection. so to connect on it from home you'll need to disconnect the office one; and visa-verse

forgot to mention, you'll have to get ADSL for the home line as-well
