I've been a very loyal customer of Vodacom for nearly 13years±, I have finally ported over to MTN and their BlackBerry BIS is faster than Vodacom. I was actually surprised to see my downloads were no longer incomplete - I managed to do around 5gigs - thank you - now I can listen to PODCAST, watch youtube videos and download apps supper fast.

I will always be a loyal customer of BlackBerry and MTN going to purchase another device end of the month - as I will be giving this one to my girlfriend.

Yes, MTN sorted out their BIS issues and its a pleasure to use now... when I can get a 3G signal! In my house I can only get a 3G signal in the main bedroom or in the garden.

I also can't even make a call sitting in my lounge because the signal is so bad, so I am going to have to port back to Vodacom just so I can answer my phone without having to sprint down the passage to get a signal.

But yes, at least the BIS is around 100KB/s+ these days on 3G.

I am on Pre-Paid I doubt they'll nail me, contracts are a no go/fly zone, once bitten twice shy.. When they Black list you for R200 being a loyal customer for many years - not even a courtsy phone call or anything or registed letter with regards to the list.

I am well covered in my area EDGE,3G,HSDPA etc even noticed my Nokia runs even faster to load websites - I hope I do come right to tether using BlackBerry APN whitch is possible in the near future.

Trust me Vodacom did take money from me

It shouldn't be possible to tether using the BB APN (only mtn) and if it is please consider that people doing this will bring the network to a halt. If you need unlimited data on your PC then get adsl from mweb. Streaming is not free either.

Dude, it is the same with me. Just when I get close to my house the 3G drops and sometimes I even loose edge. But there is nothing wrong with walking in my garden and phoning people..

I thought there were limitations to the size of things you could actually pull with BIS, also thought you couldnt stream videos etc.

You sure all this going through your BB APN?

Big surprise coming Richard. MTN'll allow you to hang yourself.

What I want to know from you BB okes ( I never get a straight answer) is how many megs do you reckon you use per month on BIS??

2 gb at least. I download a lot of attachments and I buy music from 7digital and download (full quality) via the browser.

Wow. OK- that's much better than I thought. Great value for you then :)

My usage patterns wouldn't change that much, just so I could download more. I reckon the average user is coming in at <300MB/month. There are better value solutions out there than BIS for the average Joe. I browse/download whatever I want on my Nokia. Even torrents are supported! Can use phone as a modem for PC internet too.

Though 2GB is way higher than I thought you'd be able to get ( I'm impressed) I still think my 300MB data bundle @R89 is better value for me. Each to their own :D

I use podtrapper to download podcasts with having zero airtime if you've purse value they do subtract it. I download things via another website attachments of each 200 meg+ another app

Last month I downloaded a lot off BB on Vodacom around 800 meg ± that includes 40 meg podcasts

Wow, that's amazing. Perhaps I need to move to prepaid? Make you of it while you can, once they figure it out they'll close that loophole.
Oh and budza I do 2gb on a normal month during the holidays it's much more, add to that the Blackberry compression technology (like in Opera Mini) and I'm probably using a lot more data than that in a normal month. BIS is the main reason I won't be leaving Blackberry anytime soon (although there are a lot of other things that I've since fallen in love with). PS: nothing stops you from subscribing to BIS and a data bundle for use as a modem.

2gb! Dayyam that's a heck of a lot of porn! What's the site?? Hahahaha jj dude.

Go read on HelloPeter - All the complaints about BlackBerry BIS - rather use BlackBerry on Pre-paid that way you won't get any hidden suprises - just make sure you've zero airtime when you start downloading podcasts, you tube videos via an Application on BlackBerry APP world and I download mp3s downloaded around 500 meg of mp3 and tons of porno videos.

I won't be moving from BlackBerry ever - I am seriouslygetting value for money even after checking the new prices of data.

That's why you'll see a lot of people with BlackBerry who do the wise choice. I already got everyone in my office to get a BlackBerry - and that is around 30 sign-ups.

The trick is to not be on contract and if you do want a BlackBerry ask them nicely to not Bolt on BIS and MTN can do that for you - they automatically charge R69/59 on contracts.

Can u check your data usage somehow? RichardG which site u downlaoding mp3s from?

There is an APp on BlackBerry APP world that can meassure your traffic still a beta app but slows my phone down if I am multi-tasking. I use a site I can give only via PM -- I am going to get the 9700 end of the month in cash - plus tried out a VOIP APP the latency aint worth the conversation.

I am off to sleep now - catch you in the morning :) I will upload screen shots.

Trus me BlackBerry is priceless the BIS plan ))) without BIS blackberry aint the same. Other countries pay $40 just for BIS.
