WiMax Coverage area

Does any 1 use Wimax in the Mayville area ?

Called Telkom and they said there is no coverage in that area, but if you look on there coverage site, it looks like the hole Pretoria is covered.

AFAIK you won't be able to get WiMax even if there is coverage - Telkom just don't sign up any accounts any more. They'll "recommend" 3G if there's coverage.

Where did you see they're selling WiMax? Have you spoken to anybody regarding this?

I was on Telkom’s website, and i called them and they said there is coverage in JHB, Midrand, Benouni, Halfway House and cant remember the other place's. Search for Telkom WiMax in Google.

But will they sell it too you? All my queries ended up with "yes, we have WiMax, but we're not signing up any new contracts, only maintaining the current network. We are only selling 3G services".

It's as good as phoning the US Military and asking whether you have coverage for their satellite network - they'll probably cover you, but you won't ever gain access!

LOL, well i just asked where is coverage and did not asked if i can sign up or not. Have to call them again. Will call them this week and let you know the answer. I may end up with the same answer as you.

Hehe, well, let us know what you find out. I can guarantee that if you manage to get somebody to sell you WiMax at Telkom, the other guys on this forum will be on him / her in seconds!

Hi guys

talked to Colleen at the Telkom Call Centre (10217) and she said that you can get a account. but they busy with the infrastructure and you just have to give your address and they will see if you have coverage or not. It sounds like if you have coverage then you can get a account, if you don’t have coverage then you know what, no account for the moment. Just call her and ask her.
