    Default Symantec Updates

Since friday I haven't been able to connect to the Symantec server to do my Norton updates. It keeps saying Unable to Connect to Server once I have seleced the updates I would like to be downloaded. Is anyone else having this problem?

NB: IF YOU'RE GOING TO MAKE A STUPID POST TELLING ME TO USE ANOTHER PROGRAM YOU FIND SUITS YOU - DON'T.

SuperAntMD I had erros on the MS update page, not problems tho. It was telling me my updates of 1.7MB would take 1 hour 7 mins to download, then only took about ten mins so that was odd. WiseCrack - I'm on 56k (ONLY FOR ANOTHER WEEK OR SO - ADSL GETTING INSTALLED IN THE NEXT WEEK HOPEFULLY ) so currently I'm uncapped.

DFantom... die *G* Nah I think it was just something to do with TelkomSA, but it's working now. Was weird though cause my moms Tiscali connection was downloading them perfectly if I connected with it... odd O_o

Hmm, Tiscali is Mweb, which was UUNet and now IS (not sure if the infrastructure is going via IS yet). So it is likely that they routed differently and bypassed the issue.

I've had the exact same problem with NIS 2003 and Windows updates, Was aking about it on another thread on the forums. I still can not connect to Norton with Telkom, It just times out. Same with windows. Log into Nukecap though and it loads instantly?

I've sent 4 emails off to telkom support and I have not got a single reply back yet

certain viruses prevent you from connecting to windows update and the various virus definition update servers.

Open the following file in notepad and make sure there isnt anything at the bottom of the file.

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\ open the hosts file

Very few people will have anything after: 127.0.0.1 localhost

If you see a scroll bar on the right hand side of notepad, scroll down. The viruses normally insert around 10 - 30 blank lines so you dont notice the additions

Actually symantec av users with email scanning normally do have a line under that for the av to handle scanning. Removing that line may break the email scanning.

Checked my hosts file.. Nothing out of the normal, Ran adware, Spybot S&D, Hijackthis, etc. My PC is fine. Though I can still not update Norton while using a Telkom account on my ADSL.

As I've said though, I log into Nukecap and its updated in a few secs
