Yes, the iOS 4 (formerly known as the iPhone OS 4) landed on the iPhone and iPod Touch today. Although many (hate to admit, but me included) were initially enthralled when Steve Jobs showcased it two months ago. Now that it's here, does it take back the excitement that I've shared with Android phones all this while? While I will still agree that Apple's certain UI features, like the copy-paste magnifying-glass system is still unbeatable. But in a few ways, I feel Android is still better than the iOS 4. Forget phone specifications, what I'm referring to here is purely the usability of the two systems. Here are five things that I dig about Android over the iOS.

Seriously? An LED light? Thats what makes the SOFTWARE android better than iOS4?

I will admit that the notification light is a bit of a stretch, but the android notification bar is great and as are desktop widgets. I can see myself sticking with android for a long time to come simply for those features.
 
As an iphone fanboy I agree, android is a good competitor I might switch if apple starts annoying me with their slow pace at adding certain requests.

The one that the article got spot-on, is bloody iTunes. I HATE iTunes more than anything in this world (ok, maybe not as much as Telkom)!

Why must I use iTunes if I just want to sync my contacts between my pc and phone? And dont get me started about the music. You wanna tell me Droid users can just drag-and-drop, while I must go through the whole iTunes ritual? It cant be true.

I love iTunes though have loved it since the first port to windows, on OSX it runs good.

I was one of those who tried every player on windows hey, was a winamp user from the first releases and converted mp3s on a 75mhz pentium... to encode an album would take 20hours! :D iTunes was not perfect but I never looked back.

1. Notifications - yes Android does this better. No doubt.
2. Lack of physical menu keys - This is a win for iPhone. I don't think things should be hidden in menus but always visible and accessible via the touchscreen. Not a biggie though.
3. Widgets - iPhone simply doesn't have this.
4. A simple way to transfer media - I'm sorry, what? iTunes is many things, but it's not complicated.
5. LED notification - another win for Android.
 
Let's think of 5 areas the iPhone wins:
1. Copy and Paste - the iPhone does this better than Android phones. That little scroll wheel is stupid. I see the Droid X has fixed that.
2. Good battery life - yeah the iPhone 4 owns the rest with 3G talk time.
3. Touch responsiveness - the iPhone OS is still better and smoother than any Android OS, which all occasionally stutter.
4. Gaming - well it's true y'know.
5. All the iPhones get all the updates, and all the software works perfectly on all the iPhones. Friendlier to developers and users in that respect.
 
iTunes is not complicated, bit it isnt on everyone's computer. And I know I wont let anyone install it on mine after the last time I let a friend do so to put some stuff on his iPod. So if you're at someone's house who doesnt own an apple product and want to quickly drop something onto your phone - then things are far from simple...

1. True.
2. Bogus, depends on what the user is doing. How many calls does it not drop ;).
3. Examples such as...?
4. True to a certain extent.
5. iOS 4 basically crippled the iPhone 3G. What happened to the first iPhone being updated?

These arguments are so pointless its not evern funny. Its user preference, I'm crazy about my Android powered phone, and you ifone guys like the way your ifone works. Good on you.
 
W?hat I like about Android is the way I can keep my Google calendar/contact/mail automatically synchronised between my phone and any desktop computer with internet access. What does the Apple offer in this regard? As an integrated part of the OS ofcourse.

C&P is a breeze in FroYo

If the battery on a smart phone will last two days or more, then it's something to talk about. Otherwise you have to charge it each night anyway, so as long as it gets through the day it's fine. FroYo also has pretty good battery life

FroYo is silky smooth. No stuttering. Actually FroYo kills the iPhone with regards to speed - in benchmarks, browsing, and opening apps.

True, but this is changing now that apps can be installed on the SD card. (See Need for Speed)

True to some degree. There are few apps that don't work on all versions. Part of the issue is that Android is developing so fast, whereas iPhone has a new version once a year. (Android is due for 3 major versions this year alone - and the feature and performance improvements are more than worth it). App development is generally easier for Android, and the new App Innovator will make it open to non programmers too
