Hi there,
My Fiance, her sister, and her mother recently all bought 3G enabled Motorola V980's on Vodacom contracts. The whole reason for buying those particular phones was the video chat ability over 3G. That was two months ago, and we still have not managed to get the video chat up and running. None of the staff at the Vodashops seem to have a clue about it, and Vodacom customer care wasn't much help either.. Has anyone managed to get this running?

It wouldn't be such a big deal if it was some obscure 'nice to have' that happened to be on the phones, but it's an advertised feature that drove the purchase!

Thanks.

I enabled video calling on my account using the vodacom service provider website but i looked recently and the site no longer works properly so the best advice I can give is call 111 which is free and they will definately be able to tell you who to speak to if they can't help you. It's stupid that you have to have the service enabled when it doesn't cost anything.

It is. It probably costs the SP more than voice calls to provide though- that would explain them not enabling it straight away..

I just checked out the vodacom sp website and it's working properly again. Just login to vodasurf and click the "administration" menu item and then select "Video Telephony" service and then click "Activate services" button.

Thanks.. I see two of the phones at least are already enabled- I'll have to go and fiddle a bit. Thanks for the 121 tip, and the rest of the info as well :)

Dial 082155 for all your 3G queries.Or pm me you detalis and i will activate it 4U

Normally, a call to 155 will enable the video call function (might take a few hours to go through) and then all what's required is to be in 3G coverage on both phones. Otherwise there is nothing else to do on your side.

Well, it's 100% now. The only problem now is the phone bill at the end of the month with these three and their new fascination with video calls (is it really necessary to show your mom how messy the room is... ;p)

Thanks for the help guys :)

Great, remember a video call costs the same as a voice call, so the phone bill probably will be about the same.

Might even be less. Hopefully, when shopping, it's quicker to show a picture of that sexy little number, than to describe it.

Same price or not, calling every five minutes to show what she's eating, wearing, breathing, watching, etc is not going to lower the bill ;p

Heh heh luckily I don't know anyone with a 3G phone ...yet..
I just phone my video mailbox now and then.

Can anyone tell me a bit more about the video mailbox? Does it play a video to the person leaving a message? Getting my 6680 tomorrow! :D

LandyMan
Basically yes, I set mine up today at work. You make a video call to 121 (must have 3G coverage) and then set up a video message to play to persons when you are unreachable. Works the same as voice messaging further.

Thanks for this thread. It helped me to get the Video Calling working between my phone and my dads phone :)
