My question...

I've got a transport company as client...their controller staff sometimes need to utilize their outlook distribution lists to full capacity to get work done outside the borders of SA to move loads between SA/ZIM/ZAMBIA...and this breaches the telkom internet limit of 250 emails max per hour...

So up until 2 weeks ago all was going fine and then all of the sudden smtp has been blacklisted of their username.....

Telkom recons - sorry its spam....excuse me....its high value email of high priority....not like normal spam which is low of value and utter 0 of priority..... but unfortunately they are handled as spammers..

Can anyone suggest an alternative? they used smtp.saix.net ... and have their own domain for receving email @ mweb

Telkom is willing to deregister them , but warns if they breach 250/hour they'll be permanently blacklisted...."to cope with international ISP standards" ....

This is a p2p network on site with no proper domains ect....everyone behind a gateway running their own outlook PSTs.

How about using the M-Web SMTP server and authenticate against it so it allows you to send mail ...

It's a problem with most major ISPs. They set limits on the number of emails you can send. If they don't do this, spam quickly get's out of control. I don't blame them. Email is a very poor implementation of e-communications.

That said, you can try GMAIL. I believe their email limits are much higher. You can even use the GMAIL SMTP server to send out email as if it came from your own domain (e.g [email protected]). You have to enable this through the GMAIL web interface though.

Hope this helps. Let us know if it does...

you could always install your own smtp server on your machine, it would increase the bandwidth required but it may work better

that's not a good idea as you'd be on a dynamic IP address, and lots of ISPs won't accept email from servers hosted on dynamic IPs. Your best bet would be to buy an email service that will allow for the amount of email you have send.

worked for me for ages
how would they know you are on a dymanic ip anway?

Email headers... your IP would be smeared all over it. This IP falls in a block that was identified as being used by an end user at the time of registration of this block. As an end user your IP gets auto-blocked on most mail servers/blacklists as you are not supposed to send email directly. You are supposed to use the ISPs server.

eg. http://www.spamhaus.org/pbl/query/PBL352944
The PBL database lists end-user IP address ranges which should not be delivering unauthenticated email to any mail server except those provided for specifically for that customer's use.
