Hello Guys,
I will merge this into the Linux FAQ, but the thread is getting a bit long winded. What user is trying to access the serial port when it is "read-only" or "write only"?
what does ls /dev/ttyS1 -la show ? Replace /dev/ttyS1 with your serial port.
