Ink cartridge refill products.

I've got a Canon iP3000. :cool:

My inks running out. :eek:

So........ are ink refill products any good? Picture (ie. photos and colour picture) quality wise, will I see any difference? What refill package do you use? Where can I buy them? :confused:

Help appreciated. :)
 
I used them once in the past but only had problems with it. It was on an HP though. Maybe the canon printers are less tempremental.

I would personally not try refills again.
 
Did your HP have one cartridge with all three colours in? Cause this canon has the colours in separate cartridges. So I don't think it would be a hassle of mixing the wrong colours. I just don't want to lose picture quality.

Yes it was the one cartridge with CMY but the problem was with the printhead. Everytime I tried to refill it would bugger it up. I would suggest you try it once, if it works then great. I dont remember where but I read somewhere refilling the cartridges might become illegal. Think it was on Xbit Labs or on Anandtech.
 
I have a Canon iP4000 printer and are using refilled carts that are only R30 each! No quality loss!!!! Available at Frontier Electronics in Midrand or from the H&F Supplies (mail Andre: [email protected])

But as far as I know you have to match the viscosity of the ink to your printer. Other than that alls well. You can even drill a hole into termed "non-refillable cartridges" Just get a schematic of the net to ensure you dont drill through some electronics.
 
I have been using "generic cartridges" in a epson since new and have never had any problems. The important thing to remember is that is you run out of ink and you run the printer dry it can "burn" out the head as it uses the ink for cooling.If you are looking for a good generic supplier, PM me.
PS generic and refilled are not the same, these cartridges are factory manufactered new.
 
i got 2 printers. an Epson 640, been using generics for 4 years. still great.
I also got an ip4000, i only use originals. THe canon is an awesome printer, generic inks arent always good quality.

So in a nutshell, if you into photo printing, stick to original, if you just doing basic black printing, and your printer is out of warrantee, and does not have print heads on the cartridges, then generics are fine...
 
Guess I am pretty lucky my father goes to Dubai once a month. He gets the cartridges there for very very cheap. Before that I also used to go for the generic stuff. Paying way more just because it says HP or Canon is just crazy.

Dubai dubious - the guy i get my cartridges from imported a batch of genuine HP , turned out to be reman's in original boxes !

Well my father buys from reputable stores and I have not had a single problem. Maybe the guy imported from a dodgy store/dealer?

Factor in the cost of airflight makes it quite pricey ! :D

ROFL Yeah! :D Well he goes there for work once a month so he does not directly pay for the flight. Certain things are much cheaper there but Apple hardware for example is about the same.

[EDIT] R6000-R8000 for a printer cartridge, dang.
 
I used to refill, but since my company pays (and I could just buy original) I prefer to support inky shops, I think when it comes to ink, it's a bit like a Telkom monopoly, why should we be bound to use HP ink just coz we have an HP printer? Do we have to use HP paper in an HP printer? No although I bet massive bugets have been wasted looking into it.

fckm I support small business, inky shop, postnet, laptop battery replacers who work from home, yay yay yay.

BTW I did see that Bush's government will be trying to write up a bill that will declare ink refilling illegal in the US, something about violating 'single use only' I'm sure a quick google would find more info for anyone interested
 
get a generic cart it wont void warranty, a Lexmark printer of mine was destroyed by ink from a cart that wasnt refilled properally
 
A Epson printer cannot burn out, because Epson printers do not use heat to push the ink out, they use Sonic power

Toxin i refilled my canon ip 3000 and what a mess

but i get gen cart for R17.50 ex vat each with no diffrence in print quality
