    Default Agp

    Mornings Gents.

My mobo has an AGP4X slot and my card FX5500 (AGP8X).
If i upgrade my mobo to one with AGP8X slot can i expect a perform increase ?

So not worth spending the bucks then ?

    Man on a budget though....

    1 GB RAM, FX 5500 256MB , Celeron 2.4Ghz....

Can anything save this machine or is a complete makeover needed ?

it depends on your motherboard...if the motherboard can handle 800fsb cpu's, and you have "sane" expectations from your pc, then you can spend some dosh on a 3.0ghz or 3.2ghz skt 478 cpu. Although, if it only has agp4x then it probably doesnt do 800fsb...in another post I made mention of how agp4x can still kick pci-e 16x butt, so how about telling us what your reasonable expectations are (usage scenario) and how much cash you got to spend and a helpful decision can be made.

    Aaahh ,

So i googled a bit. Not many cards make use of AGP8X and the benchmarks showed absoloutely minimal increases in performance, at most 1 FPS.... not much too warrant the expenditure on just a mobo. I'll save for another month or 2 and do it right

When you upgrade get a NF4 board and a AMD Athlon 64 within your budget. Maybe look at the Geforce 6600GT, great card for the price.

Try overclocking the mobo, my 2.2 is now a 2.6, and it made a big difference
