Has anyone who has a connection to the Screamer network experienced any problems lately? I am connected to the Dalview tower in Brakpan and my problems has only started to arise in the last week.

Previously I had access to the Screamer CPE and used it check logs and signal strength's, but when my problems started last week I pointed to Screamer that the High Site I was connected to was over subscribd and hence the reason why I was dropping my connection.

After many attempts someone finally had a look at the problem and verified what I told them. Immediately the password to the CPE was removed and I no longer had access to the logs. :)

My question is this common for Screamer to over subcribe, if so what is the point for me keeping them as an ISP for a half rate service that keeps dropping connection ?

Has anyone else also experience this prolem.
Are there any other providers that provide Wifi or Wimax coverage in the East Rand area.
Has Cell C reached Gauteng as yet, I rather spend my money on a provider who I know has made some investment and will keep on trying to upgrade.

Screamer are treading a very steep slippery slope, and are definitely on their way out. They cancelled their capped and uncapped ADSL services several months ago, due to poor performance of the product, and high admin costs. They sold their userbase to BCSnet, their upstream provider at the time, if I'm not mistaken, Their Wimax product is now also doomed - they've been found to be illegally using Wimax spectrum that belongs to Sentech, in a shady and shaky deal they struck with Sentech a few years ago.

Cell C should hit Gauteng in mid-November, according to Cell C themselves. I'd wait it out until Cell C arrives, and then make the switch, if your area has coverage. If you area doesn't have coverage, you might have to wait a bit longer, but you WILL get coverage. Cell C have promised to cover 67% of the population by mid-2011, and 97% of the population by end 2011.

Whatever you do, make sure you don't sign any contracts, with whichever provider you choose to switch to. Things are changing so fast, you'll kick yourself for signing a 24 month contract. The Cell C 12 month contracts are worthwhile though. Great value!

Well I am getting timeouts every demn minute and disconnects. I then get told its cause on interference and they are planning to move the Helderkruin Tower. I honestly don't believe that.

mmmhhh interesting indeed. When I had access to the CPE i proved to them the over subscription, IM waiting for a response to them but i definetly want to get out. utterly useless

oh ! even their mybroadband rep "Howzit" not very helpful

I dont know where Howzit has gone. but I do contact Demond on issues, which his usually quick to come back on.

4pm and counting - still no feedback from screamer as promised

Still no formal assistance from screamer - i called through yesterday, just couldn't take it anymore, didn't want to put me through management, noted to me they will collect hardware from my premises - that is the best they can do, i used to connect fine from my one outbuilding, after they over subscribed their towers issues are being experienced - jeeeeeeeez increase capacity dudes and don't market if you can't handle it ..........

I TOTALLY REGRET GOING WITH SCREAMER

I filled out the subscription forms this week. They tell me it's going to take 4 weeks before they can install. This sounds like under capacity to me! I would like to give them the benefit of the doubt, but I don't have 4 weeks to wait! I don't want to sign a contract with cell c though...

I am aware they are very carefull not to over-subscribe on their high sites.

Anyways they have sorted my connection issue to my tower, just need their links to Neotel/Seacom to get back to normal now after the Seacom problems last few days.
