Thread: Which GPU? ..as usual ;)

Default Which GPU? ..as usual ;)

    Heya,

Apollo 6800 Vanilla = R1,080 (Great Heatsink - good oc'ing; possibility of unlocking the 4 extra pipes, and almost certainly 1 shader)

Asus x800pro vivo = R1,558 (Good chance of flashing to x800xt speeds and unlocking to 16 pipes, probably needs a better cooler for that tho..)

    ATI(Brand) x800 xl = R1,597

    XFX 6800gt = R1,788

I plan on ordering one of these to a relative's place in USA and they will send it to me.

Opinions, advice, cautions very readily accepted!
    Thanks.

Hmmmm, OK I am bias for Nvidia so I would say take the 6800GT(I have one) but also have a look at some benchmarks for the X800XL. It is also a great card. In Half Life 2 the XL is a little faster and in Doom III and Rid**** the 6800GT is a little faster.

I just like Nvidia more. Their drivers are always good and nice to use.

What am I thinking!!!! GO FOR THE 6800GT

[EDIT] Here is a link to Tomshardware PCI-E VGA Charts. They have both cards so go check it out but still go fot the 6800GT

    It's going to be AGP, as I am running a 64 3000+ 939 on a Chaintech S1689,
I agree the 6800gt is kick-ass although a little more expensive, ...what was on my mind was...
Surely the x800xt is better than the x800xl (?), ..and if I am almost guaranteed of flashing a x800pro Vivo to 16 pipes and xt pe speeds (520/560) or at least stock xt (500/500)
I looked at the Asus x800xt card and it looks like it uses the same cooling and the same 1.6 Samsung memory, ..basically identical card...

Considering I am on a tight budget..

What about the Asus with 7800 Gpu's They seem ideal for future upgrading and are well priced for the increase in performance and lower power usage.

Agreed. If you look at the reviews on Tom's Hardware aswell, you'll see the X800XL outperforms the 6800GT.

Unfortunatey I have a AGP system, and besides the 7800's are waay out of my price range!

To add, ..what about the x800xt versus the 6800gt?

Well between those 2 I would even go for the ATI and that says a lot.

I was looking at this: http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20041222/

It appears the Nvidia drivers have improved quite a lot.

?even though, as I said, I would plan on buying the Asus x800pro Vivo and then flashing to an x800xt..?

    would your opinion change?
