Did u guys knw that ppl in japan and South Korea can nw surf the web with the speed of light.45-50Mb/s and only pay like R230p/m.compare their speed and monthly costs to ours.our 192Kb/s costs R611 and japans 50Mb/s costs R230  .check out this site http://bbpromo.yahoo.co.jp

telkom is ripping us off and they are milking us dry.i wonder when is that SNO planning to come.

Some places in america and japan have 2gbps.
The speed of their internet is limited by the speeds of their harddrives

The sad fact about all this... It would be a great start if South Africa starts to adopt the rules Japan set out for getting to the fast internet they have now - it would prob. take YEARS for us to catch up, and we will still be behind by that time - sad to think!

Perhaps not so impossible - but with our infrustructure, telkom should slacken up the prices, and up the bandwidth! *sigh*

has anybody switched from 512 to 1gig and seen any noticeable difference

It is not telkoms intention to make prices expensive. it is there goal to lower prices at an international standard...BUT. rome was not built in one day give it some time, the prices are comming down.

Telkom provide a service
Telecoms companies in other countries provide a similar service

Telkom has the infrastructure
Telecoms companies in other countries have a similar infrastructure

I think it is only fair that we compare them to other countries. If we don't , if we let them dictate to us how much we must pay and how much we can download, then we are no better off than Russia and China from 15 years ago. (in fact we're no better off than China now)

we live in a democracy (sort of) where we are entitled to freedom of choice, and that choice includes not having to put up with monopolistic entities which force us to accept their ways, and because Telkom are doing this, we are fighting tooth and nail to get the Government, and private enterprise to give us acceptable choices. We cannot get better priced internet if only a handful of us fight for the cause and the rest are lackluster and don't give a damn that they are being screwed up the a$$ by Telkom.

Photonman, I and many others care what lines other countries have.

It is interesting to compare....So if u dont like ppl on this forum, then buddy , u go away.

I hate telkom and will always hate them....<<<---- ******

Oh and ganstarr, u work for telkom?

:)

zippo i agree with you to a certain point!

i would also like to have what other countrys have etc but, wats complainin and carryin gonna do!!

how long has every1 been hating on telkom now???

like the old saygoes! "if u cant beat them, then join them"

Every one thinks when the SNO comes in its going to make a difference? Think again it will be controlled by the very same people that are now controlling Telkom and trying to make every cent out of the public that they can. How many cell operators are there and it made no impact on prices and services. What we need is a complete independent player.

yes it did prices dropped alot since cell c came in

i remember nearly 3 rand a call now its around 1.20 or something like that alot cheaper

Problem with this country is that there are to many corrupt and money crazed people in the top - they dont give a bugger about the country.
If you take a look at the countries with fast internet access they almost all started off like SA, with monopoly.
Its the state in these countries that decided that fast access is cruical for country development and competition.
They see to it that the former monopoly have to share their infrastructure and cant charge an arm and a leg for competition to access their network. In the begining, monopoly days, it was anyway the state that funded the infrastructure.
In this country they let Telkom rip everyone off because guess who are big shareholders in Telkom and at the same time runs the country - they care just about money!!!!

ok B1tches if you whant to compare us to other countries lets do it.
Why dont we have HUMMERS and ESCALADES?
Why cant we pay $2.03 per gallon pettrol?
why do I have to pay R128 a month to get from retreet to capetown?
Why dont we put people into space?
Why cant we have ugly fat chicks here as well and make fools out of our selves on talk shows and still be proud.

They didnt just start oneday with adsl and give 4meg lines, It took time so please be patient

Start messing with these persons money flow and you will start seeing changes in South African telecoms.
