I see Microsoft and Intel are backing HD-DVD (toshiba), and hollywood is backing Bly-Ray (sony). Actually stupid, its all about money in the end, why not just make one standard??
 
And all the while they argue about who gets to make the new standard they could've been researching the NEXT big jump in technology for the past three years.

Evolution is held back by stupid people.
 
Wonder if Sony is going to win this one too - they sure came out winners with the Sony VHS vs BetaMAX saga.

Actually it was JVC VHS vs SONY Betamax. Which Sony clearly lost.
 
I'm particularly keen to see Sony win this one, as it will be a nice big green tick in their favour vs M$

Fact 1 = Intel and Microsoft will integrate special goodies for HD-DVD
Fact 2 = 36DVDs = 6 Blu-Ray Discs = 1 HVD

Well i know what i would support! And Samsung has a new player that would be able to read both formats.

What format would you support?

Got this outa wikipedia:
HD DVD has a single layer capacity of 15 GB and a dual-layer capacity of 30 GB. Toshiba has announced a triple-layer disc is in development, which would offer 45GB of storage. This is smaller than its primary competitor Blu-ray Disc, which supports 25GB for one layer, 50GB for two and 100GB for four.

It seems to contradict your "facts".

Actually only 2 Hollywood companies are supporting Blu-Ray: Walt Disney and Twentieth Century Fox while

Warner Bros. Studios, New Line Cinema, Paramount Pictures and Universal Pictures endorse HD DVD
 
I need an HDV drive! It's a pitty the blu-ray might not see the light who knows.
But I back blu-ray since it will allow more storage capacity than HD-DVD.

But HDV will hold 3.9 Terra Bytes thats 3993 GB WoW!
And to think we could have had HDV now if they really wanted to improve storage capacity instead of making money :(

At a transfer rate of 1 Gb\s, ie 128MB\s. So it would take about 9 hours to read the entire thing :eek:
 
HVD sounds like the format they should be heading for ... not these in-between blu-ray and HD-DVD .... the technology is there ... its just that it does not belong to one of the big companies ... or it would have been available by now :)

In essence HVD is gonna be the successor to allot of storage mediums we use atm. I wonder what one of thow terabyte size discs are gonna cost :P
