Google’s Zeitgeist generally gave a good indication of the most popular search terms in South Africa. But the March stats for South Africa however look very strange. Previously the usual suspects, namely the banks, cellular operators and the occasional celebrity dominated the list.

The new stats however place ‘medicine’ as the top search term, followed by the rather obscure ‘boysfood’ and ‘martin luther king’. This just does not seem right.

The other search terms in the top 15 are: Christian, starbucks, university of cape town, jamie oliver, career junction, sowetan, waterfalls, you magazine, die knoop, addo elephant park, Hirsch and nikon
Did they start using a new algorithm which produces skewed results in the case of South Africa? If not, I fear South Africa has very strange searching habits…
