Hi All

I was wondering is anyone knew if there was a way no matter how long winded to motivate telkom to either sort out a line issue or possibly install a mini DSLAM in an suburb, I know a few people in my suburb and they all seem to have the same issue, DSL lines done sync at more than about 1.5 Mbps to 2 Mbps and even at those speeds they are not exactly stable. Many CRC errors, the Attenuation levels are high above 55db etc.

Any ideas?

Unfortunately there is nothing you can do about it. Simply because they won’t budge. They say that this can be attributed to line degradation and there is nothing they “will” do about it until it syncs at less than 1024k.

This is what they guy told me today when they dropped my line speed back to 3074k.

I figured if enough of the residents in the area complained we might be able to get somehting, hey even 3074k would be a blessing :)
Telkom recon we are about 5km away from 3 exchanges pretty much in a black hole between Boskruin, Northcliff and Honeydew

just downgrade to 512k line, it should work, then you also safe some buck not paying for a 4mb

I thought about that but I often use the line for work purposes, its fairly stable at about 1.5 Mbps just not quite what I am used to. Sadly about 6 months ago before I bought the house, I rented in Sundowner and had a stable 8Mbps link what a change.
