    Default Faulty CD-RW/DVD Combo

My parents CD-RW/DVD Combo is giving me a hell of a time. All it does the whole time is open and close by itself which they say is quite irritating for them. What can the fault me, maybe just the cable?

Ps, I don't know what make it is.

Any idea how old it is? Sometimes you just have to accept that a things busted and let it go especially if it's a bit on the old side. If it's still new than it might still be under a warranty and you can take it in. These days the combo drives aren't that expensive, with the right contacts you can get a good one for less than R300.

Ag it's just over a year old. I have another one at home I can put it but I am very finicky. If something is broke, I wanna know why it's broke And besides, do you know how much work it is to open up the box, take the one out, put the other one in and then all the effort of closing the box again. Sheesh

Forgive me, but the "opening and closing by itself" could be an indicator of a spirit, trying to make contact from "the other side"

Alternatively, it could just be stuffed!

This is going to sound strange: do a virus scan.

I know there was a virus/malware a couple of years ago that would randomly open and close the CD-ROM drive on Windows computers. Can't remember the name of the virus though...

    Thanx I'll try that one.

Remember the joke that came out where it says it put a glass holder on the computer and then the CD Rom would open up.... My parents believed that one

the eject button could also be stuck. that would cause it to open and close repeatedly.
dont overlook the obvious. boot from a boot floppy, if the drive still opens and closes then it boviously isnt a virus, you have now eliminated a software problem so go search for your hardware problem
