Broadband Infraco grows fibre optic network

Not sure what I am missing here, but what does this have to do with the Transport Minister?

The state-owned telecoms infrastructure provider's fibre optic cable network now covered about 12,250km country-wide, he told a media briefing at Parliament in his capacity as chairman of the infrastructure development cluster of ministries.

At the end of the day, how does the end user and RSA citizen benefit from this?

Infraco has some of the highest back haul costs in the country and their network is paid for by TAX payers money.

Utilizing this and releasing lower backhaul costs will significantly improve broadband penetration for SA.

Until then the network wont be fully utilized and will cost more money to maintain.

This, against the background of Zuma's promises re. cheaper broadband in the SONA last year, shows you exactly how much 'for the people' they really are..

Yes they do have unfortunately its not doing what its supposed to be doing, provide cost effective and competitive data backhaul for Internet and Data services across the country.
This might hopefully change in the future but only time will tell.

It is doing EXACTLY what it's supposed to be doing, namely enrich a small number of well-connected cronies at the expense of the public, economic growth and jobs.

Compared with which other providers? Some of the numbers I've seen were quite competitive.
