I ran some speed tests , just thought i'll post the results . International speed is very bad.

International speed test results: (ran test twice // cleared cache between testruns)

2005-11-17 15:46:22 EST: 87 / 42
Your download speed : 87 kbps or 10.9 KB/sec.
Your upload speed : 42 kbps or 5.3 KB/sec.

International speed test 2 results: (Different Server)
Your download speed : 114 kbps or 14.3 KB/sec.
Your upload speed : 42 kbps or 5.2 KB/sec.

:( not good at all, earlier tonight i got even worse , like 67kbps at some point. I'll keep trying different servers to see what the diff. is.

Local link test results: (ran test twice // cleared cache between testruns)

Download time: 11.672 seconds
Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
Estimated line speed: 349.6 (kilobits/second)
Estimated line speed: 42.8 (kiloBytes/second)

Download time: 12.485 seconds
Size of file: 500 KiloBytes

:D excellent speeds!!! I like it a lot. (that is if my 3G connection doesnt drop on me)

Not sure how accurate these tests are, but i used the sites listed here on the MyAdsl / My broadband site.

Bauwermeister, IMO the international speeds will be hugely affected by Telkodemonopoly messing with IS and blocking incoming SAT-3 packets bound for IS, AFAIK IS are still having to bring international packets in via satellite...BTW Vodacom uses both IS and Telkodemonopoly for bandwidth - you have a luck of the draw situation when connecting - as to which peering link your connection will be routed through...

Ic, do you think one can do a traceroute to see which peering link one is on and simply disconnect/reconnect till you are on a Telkom/SAIX link? If so, what IP addresses do I have to look out for?
