Nice to know an app is available, since I use SABnzbd for my downloads as well.

These will be my top 10:

Palmary Weather Pro (Very good weather app with 5 day forecast widget)
Advanced Task Killer (You can select what background tasks to kill and how often)
Juice Defender Ultimate (Very customizable battery saving app)
    Launcher Pro (Nice UI replacement)
Widgetsoid (Nice selection of customizable widgets and toggles)
Trapster (Very informative of accidents, roadblocks and speed cameras)
AdFree Android (Removes about 95% of all those annoying adds)
Samba File Sharing (File sharing over wifi)
Camera360 (Nice selection of effects and image enhancers)
    News24

This might be a little bit picky, but does anyone know of a 4x2 weather clock widget with a 5 day forecast? I can only seem to find weather widgets with just the 5 day forecast, or with a clock and no 5 day forecast, only the current weather...

Not using all off these but I love Launcher Pro (Plus) and I don't know about you but Advanced Task Killer and Juice Defender Ultimate seems pointless, I used them on Eclair but on Froyo and Gingerbread they don't do anything useful, or at least nothing I could see. (On Galaxy S that is)

is there any app that could monitor your call usage? especially by time, so you can set your peak and off peak rates and stuff?

PhoneUsage does monitor calls, SMS and data, will check quick ie: rates as I normally only use it for Data https://market.android.com/details?i...pps.phoneusage

Edit: no rates only does minutes but you can set limits per day/week and month

yeah I saw these types of apps. I was looking for something that like " rate = [enter] R3" during x and x times rate = [enter] R1 during x and x times. they then calculate your billing.

I will give the app you recommended a try.

Ye the Launcher Pro Plus is good! I have quite a lot of stuff installed and quite a lot of apps like to run in the background, so I use Advanced Task Killer to kill those unwanted apps every 2 hours, obviously not killing the widgets or juice defender. I also found a perfect combo for my clock and 5 day forecast, I downloaded the sense analog clock widget, disabled the weather, then just changed the palmary weather widget to 4x1 and it fits in perfectly under the sense clock.

    Also using the Galaxy S.

You should not be using task killers at all, well not the ones that simply kill apps using memory that is.

Interesting read, I think I will uninstall advanced task killer and see how my phones performance / battery goes over the next week or so...

Install https://market.android.com/details?i...t.watchdoglite instead and leave CPU threshold on default.

It will actually tell you with alarms if apps in the background are eating battery life so you will know who and what to kill/uninstall. You can force test it by starting a 3d Game and switching to the desktop instead of exiting the game.

Hmm, there's quite a few in these lists I will need to explore. After installing a whole bunch of apps, there are really a very few that I use on a regular basis. Some of these run in the background:
FXWare Currency - realtime currency conversions which I need for work
NDrive - GPS and maps app
    IMDB (Internet Movie Database) app
Skype - the first launch version didn't work on my Desire, at all. It now does and I use it to keep in touch with my sons in the UK and China
GMail - is it an app or built-in? Don't remember, but I use it all the time to acess my Google Apps mail domain
Call Confirm - asks to confirm the number I want to dial. It's very easy otherwise to dial the wrong number
    QuickMark - for QT scans
Swype - an absolute must-have although I'm not 100% happy with the latest version. I've said it before, if I was Google I'd buy them out and license exclusively for Android devices. Holder of the world texting record.
RingGuard - prevents me from changing ring volume without confirming, Important given it's been a problem for me with the Desire
Calendar - yes, it's built in, but I don't use a paper diary any more and it's my alarm clock too. Different days have different alarm times.

Less important and not really needed: 3G Watchdog - running in the background. WeFi - for wifi connection to my network. I've got the usual games installed but I don't bother with them anymore. BBC News app. Also F-Secure anti-theft but I don't think I can trust it - crashes a lot.
Data bundles: At least if I get pomped, I'd like to enjoy it.

Poweramp - Super audio player and hugely customisable, love the EQ settings and interface. Can override your lock screen so you can stop/play/skip tracks when you activate the lock screen. Still not that comfortable with the way it handles playlists though.
Tapatalk - Best messageboard viewer out there!
Whatsapp - Nice cross platform messaging client..
Fancy Widget - Nice weather and clock widget! Also customisable, I've set pressing the time to open my clock app and when you press the date it opens my calender..
3G Watchdog - Handy utility for monitoring your 3G usage. Not always that accurate, but decent enough to be useful. Sets alerts when you reach certain usage targets which is handy.
News24 - Best news app out there at this stage.
ES File Explorer - Nice file explorer replacement.
Skype 2.0 - New Skype is a big improvement over the old one. Now just for video calling on the Galaxy S...
Allshare - Very nice for streaming media through my media sever over my Wifi network.
Voodoo Control Plus - Fantastic audio mod for Samsung Galaxy S, makes your phone sound super with high quality headphones.

Honourable metion: CoPilot Live 8, but unfortunately their customer support = donkey balls and the desktop utility to load maps is just as bad. Works great as a GPS tool though on my phone, but the minuses do detract from the overall experience unfortunately.
