Tired of international hosting.
Saw that Afrihost's Pro Linux plans are hosted locally.

Anyone have any experience with them. Good or bad.
Or else please recommend a local web host.
Thanks

Well, I had a very poor experience with them. I tried out the Gold Pro (or it might have been the Platinum) for a month. It started off with about 3-4 days of incredibly poor latency, with high pings and slow speeds - it was a known problem on the IS network at the time, so not directly Afrihost's fault, but a problem regardless. Then, after using them for about 2 weeks, they suspended my account without any forewarning. I spent a morning phoning their accounts department and speaking to different people, all of whom said my account was paid up and they didn't know why it was suspended. Eventually a technician got back to me in the afternoon from Afrihost and said that my account had been suspended because of a php script running through a cron that was using too much memory. So instead of just killing the cron and immediately informing me, they decided it was better to just suspend my account - which was serving a live commerical site - and even then, still couldn't be bothered to give me a heads up. That pretty much did it for me. Closed my account and will never use them again. I don't think I've ever come across a more unprofessional setup. And the worst part of it is that you have to give a 30 day notice to close your account, so I had to pay for 2 months of hosting :P
So, that's my bad experience, I guess :P
P.S. As for a recommendation, I'm currently using Webafrica. They don't offer as much space (if that's what you're after), but they're competitively priced. They're not without problems though, and I have encountered a fair amount of downtime with them, but of late, it has certainly improved.
There's not many alternatives in the Afrihost/Webafrica price range, so I guess it's more a case of taking what's given to us in the local hosting market (Mweb is competitively priced too, however, most people will shy away from their 1 year minimum contract).

MSPoints.co.za - Cheap Xbox Live Points & Gold Memberships
Anybody tried Gridhost for local hosting ?
I been think of them for a while to host my client websites locally but have not got any further than the thinking stage.
Anybody using them and what are they like ?
I would suggest http://elitehost.co.za/spa
Used them a while back. very decent. I just check their prices and plans and saw unlimited bandwidth and its local hosting. Wow....
It seems they have servers in Mweb datacentre thats why its unlimited banwidth. Nice! Its so cheap too.

Geez, that is pretty bad.
Whatever happened to initiative and common courtesy?
Their features are weird as well. I emailed their sales dept. to get some more info about how many domains you can have per package. 1 per package.
Why would I want 20 MySQL DBs on 1 domain? Waste.
So i'm still looking around, as WebAfrica's prices are a bit high.
UNLIMITED LOCAL HOSTING - Unlimited Storage and Traffic only R35/Month - more info?
Elitehost.co.za | Professional Web Hosting since 2005
Thanks for the recommendation cavedog.
I went and checked out elitehost. Great pricing on their local reseller accounts.
Also, probably the friendliest and most helpful team I've ever met in hosting.
Within a matter of minutes my WHM hosting package had been transferred and requests for all the domains had been sent for updating with CoZa.
Thanks again Jason for your help this afternoon. I really do like the live chat's presence on your site. Usually it's hidden away and you have to dig for it, and wait 10 minutes for someone to actually answer your question.
Am going to say it again
AFRI Host is untouchable in SA even Hetzner struggles to catch them
And no they did not pay me this is like general knowledge anyone over 5 years old is suppose to know this
