Default Personal Income Tax Advice Needed!

    Hi everyone

I need some major advice. So here's the issue, at the beginning of the year, I signed a 3 month employment contract as i was unsure if I was accepted into honors. Thankfully i made it so i did not extend my contract. Now my problem comes in that i paid R2100 in taxes for the 3 months. How would i go about claiming this? It was my first "real" job, so my boss registered me but thus far i have only received the IT 150 form( notification of registration). my employment dates were from the 3rd of Jan till the 31st of March. Also, i will not be working for this entire year so i will not go above the threshold.

    Thanks for any help guys

All you have to do is file your income tax return, the refund will be automatically calculated and returned to you.

Firstly you will need a tax number for youself. Then you will need to sign on for e-filling, after 1 July 2011 your e-filling should show you your IRP5 loaded if your employer did like they should have. You need to get a IRP5 from your employer as well.

You check that all info it filled in thats needed and that your IRP5 match each other. You submit and then a few days later the money should be in your bank account.

Well when u register at SARS as a tax payer you get this tax number
Then you are meant to update your details on their system (Oracle or what ever the company used)
After doing that, your tax number should be on your payslip somewhere

If you havent gone to SARS physically to get one you probably do not have one. Not sure what you need, thinks its ID book and a bank statement.

Only paper you need from a employer is your IRP5 for this year (up to 28 Feb 2011) and another one you need to get next year (up to 28 Feb 2012) for March's tax payment.

You mention IT150. Wasn't your registrAtion tax ref no on there? Once you register on efiling your IRP5 should be automatically prepopulated on your return... assuming the employer complied with the IRP5 recon submission deadline .

Filing season only opens up 1 July 2011. You will have to wait until next year to claim march back.

mpower111 you are having the same problem that I had faced before. I had also sign a contract of six month in NGO(don't want to mention the name) for a CAAFAG program held in eight different district of Nepal. There always is the tax problem in our country I paid R7200 in taxes for six month and I also went for claim. At the tax attorney office I was given with the Filing Back Taxes form. Although I filled all the form my claiming was not fulfilled. Then I went to a LLC(the company who fill up you all tax matter solution) they fix my problem. I hope you are also in need to take a help of the same company I went to.
