I want to know if anyone here's using something other then motoblur?

I just can't wait for IF our phones might be getting the gingerbread update anymore. I'll restore the one I currently have when the update get's released officially. But I got this feeling that might still take a while.

Thanks in advance.

Also any awesome apps you might be using on your phone that's giving it more of a edge? I've realised that my phone is getting much slower as I install more applications. Anything you would recommend? Except for the obvious myBB app!

Why don't you try one of the launchers available in the market. Go Launcher EX is free and both my wife (MB525) and I (HTC Desire HD) use it.
It is themeable and has alot of nice functionality. I first tried Launcher Pro (Paid for it) but reverted to "Go" once I had seen how nice it was on my wife's phone.
:) :) :)

Okay sure but it's still not gingerbread! But I'll look it up and show it to my fiance!

Okay so I found some really interesting things after doing some research, including a link to all the official ROM files for the motorola DEFY, the thing to keep in mind though, if you use one of the beta images then remember that you cannot downgrade it. I'll link a thread ion how to use these filles correctly also:

ROMS - http://and-developers.com/sbf:defy
Correct way of using the above link - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966537

More interesting things, if you know anything about android!

GINGERBREAD ON MOTOROLLA DEFY

Hey Defy users,

I;ve rooted my Motorola Defy and have installed :D cyanogen 7 gingerbread 2.3.5

Quadrant standard score : 2142

No issues so far, been running smoother than Mila Kunis's rear end.

Love gingerbread, its silky smooth on the defy with no problems.

Here is a really useful link if you would like to attempt ( DEFY CUSTOM ROM INSTALLANT GUIDE )

Its apt that this is a custom rooted rom...with regards to the idea of "the gingerbread man"
its ideally about moving away and escaping authoritarian rule.

NOTES:

Words of caution :

Using nightly builds are ...mmm ... risky, I am using RC1.5 ( perfecto )
Had problems with a few things on the nightly biulds , namely force closing and camera bombing.

U will need to get use to a few procedures, once u got them, its like riding a bike, u wont forget it.
Will need additional software like :

superoneclick ( instruction )
RSD lite 5.0
Defy 2ndinit ( make sure its an old version, could be troubelsome Ver1.4ish)

HARDWARE NOTES:
2 ways to boot phone :

1 .switch on holding the up volume rocker
2. switch on holding bottom volume rocker followed by pressing both volume rockers at the same time when the green triangle and droid comes on screen

( took a really long time to figure the latter out )

ROMS:
Initial rom : JRDNEM_U3_3.4.3-33--1_CHINESE_SIGHN_SIGHNED
Custom Rom : cm7.1.0-RC1.5-jordan-signed
Additional : gapps-gb-Google apps-signed

Need any help, drop me a line.

:)

I'll only install a new ROM if it's icecream sandwich. I don't really see the point of going through the trouble of installing something that will bring marginal improvements :P.

Then u'll have to wait...for icecream sandwitch... ( a long time )

While I am enjoying double the performance on gingerbread.

Check your quadrant score. its literally double without battery life sacrifice on gingerbread.

my quadrant score is 1500 :p. On stock rom :D. ha ha.

It's a good phone, going for 89pm at MTN, the thing is that it is not going to get anymore updates because the Defy+ has been lanched, I contacted MTNSP and they say "if" they bring the Defy+ it will ony be sometime next year. I was thinking about getting the Defy and loading the MIUI ROM but I rather wait for until the flat-rate data packages are launched for Android devices by MTN and Vodacom for now my best option is patients.

Picked up my Motorola on Friday and have already rooted and upgraded to Froyo.

Apart from having certain apps already included and others deleted (from stock), are there any other advantages of installing a ROM such as Cyanogen ?

Seeing that no-one answered me ;) I took the plunge and flashed the CM7.1.0-jordan ROM last night that has Android version 2.3.7

Phone is a lot faster and working well.
