Signal problem - VC suggests GSM

i've complained about my crap 3g/hsdpa signal at home, so vodacom said they'll investigate. 3 weeks later and their resolution is that i switch my phone to gsm only.

i had a look around on my htc magic and the only place i can switch is "use 2g networks only". isn't gsm basically gprs? if not, then does anyone know where to set it?
 
You are correct. 2G only will be GPRS/EDGE only. Really crappy "resolution" that!

I can't remember who phoned me today, but the lady who spoke to me told me that after investigating the signal for three weeks, the engineers had come up with a solution - set my phone to GSM only.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that mean that I will only be able to use GPRS, as GSM is 2G? If so, then what is the point of having a 3G enabled phone? I might as well have a Nokia 5110.

If I am correct, then please don't let them take another three weeks to assess the situation. I'd much rather have my contract terminated then, as I can get a decent signal from any other operator.

Please be advised that changing your phone to GSM only will make no difference , you can still use your GPRS and 3G if your handset is of cempetency

i googled it and found GSM was a 2G network, which is why i told them that last night. i'll just email and tell them that it's only on GPRS and that there is no 3g/hspda at all now. i think they're just stringing me along and hoping that i lose interest. i'll show them - i'll pester them all the time until they cut me loose. :D
