Hi guys,

I just got a graphics card and my monitor is not good (it is a 18.5'' Samsung which i bought in 2005). I have never had an LG monitor and it is R900 at Makro. Samsung 20'' is R1000 (from R1200) at game. I want to get one at least tomorrow. Do you have any experience on either brand or both? Which would you advise I go for? These are the monitors, LG: http://www.makro.co.za/p/49614/lg-20-led-monitor/ and Samsung: http://www.makro.co.za/p/42618/samsung-20-led-monitor/. Thanks in advance for your input.

i think LG since its IPS = better colours...

Although Samsung is the only manufacturer with a zero dead pixel policy.

Thanks for the response bro. What does IPS stand for? Would you kindly elaborate also on the "zero dead pixel policy".

I googled the Samsung Warranty and thanks for bringing that to my attention.

I just bought the Samsung 20" LED from Makro about 30 minutes ago. I'll let you know what I think of it once I've got it up and running.

That is interesting. Please do remember to come back bro. Congrats!

Please elaborate.

IPS is a different screen technology than most ordinary desktop monitors. It is also generally more expensive.

You don't have to worry about any details, because that almost certainly isn't an IPS monitor. LG doesn't even sell any 20" IPS LED monitors in this country, afaik.

It is probably the E2060S, if the picture is correct.

OK so I've set it up and got it next to my old HP 1955 LCD which I've had for about 5 years.

First off, I paid about R3,000 for the HP 19" back then. Even today it amazes me. You can view it from any angle, vertically or horizontally, and there is no change in the picture. The colours are really great too, I love this old HP of mine.

So the Samsung I just got is nice. I like the think border and the touch controls. The colours are good and sharp. The picture changes a lot though as you change the vertical viewing angle. Looking at it from side to side the colours and contrast remain fairly consistent, but move up and down and it changes in a huge way. Comparing my 5 year old HP LCD to this brand new LED is interesting, the HP wins in a lot of ways :)

But For R1,299 (and I paid R300 worth with eBucks) it's nice, I like it. Definitely would have got it over the LG, I really don't like the quality of LG monitors. I need to raise this Samsung up a bit as I'm looking down at it (HP has a brilliant adjustable stand) so will need to get some a Yellow Pages to put under it as a temporary measure. Oh and my old HP has USB ports on it that this Samsung doesn't have :) Amazed that 5 year old technology is better in a lot of ways than this LED!

But to some it up, I'm happy with it after only paying R1,000 in total.

I'm going to play a 720P mkv now and see how it comes out.

Update: The colours are brighter and deeper, blacks are blacker and whites are whiter. So very good in that regard. Dragging a movie across both screens makes them look like chalk and cheese.

Thanks a lot for the feedback. I jus got back from game and I also bought the Samsung 20'' LED. I am going to connect it and see how it goes.

As for me bro, I like this screen. Maybe again it has to do with the fact that it is an upgrade for me. I know my old Samsung secreen was really bad when it comes to viewing from an angle. As for this new screen, it is excellent when viewing from an angle. I also like the colours, they are awesome.
